Running 25:00 [2]

Pleasant day, short run, in eastern FP. (Why don't I do this more often????????? In theory, Tower Grove would be really easy:) )

Heavy makeover of at least large parts of Triple A golf course have begun.

Note

Worked the St. Louis marathon for 4 hours. I was at Boyle and Chouteau - roughly mile 9 for half-marathoners (just after the race split) and mile 23 for marathoners. I was supposed to be helping to monitor the intersection but STL PD said, "Let me do my business." (Fortunately, he didn't go with his first instinct of sending a car west on Chouteau just as the leading half-marathoners came into view east on Choteau.) I was near water station - helped out there a lot and swept up a lot of cups later. Amazingly, the 'green' eco water cups were already disintegrating on wet pavement by end of race.

With a new course design forced by city due to Hwy 40 closing, a triangle of about 6 blocks of people were literally locked into or out of their neighborhood (via cars that is) for 2-3 hours - no breaks in the flow of runners. Fortunately, only a few residents were affected. Similar congestion downtown caused at least one family to miss their Amtrak ride - they were unaware of the race and then could not get close to the new station.

Temperatures were ideal all day - fortunately since rain changed from drizzle, to none, to fairly heavy about 3 hours into the race. With Zac F of STL setting course record in marathon, top 5-10 male marathoners were really spread out. The huge numbers of 9-11 minute/mile half-marathoners was amazing - almost over-whelmed the well-staffed and efficient water station.
