Orienteering race 38:55 [4]

Mark set nice course at Laumeier, using the accurate map features :). 45 min Score O' with 22 controls, only two bobbles. Bit warm so hard to maintain a pace. But much better weather than past week. First place (Eric, Dave F, Rob, Bill, and Rudy were no-shows:))

Orienteering 20:00 [1]

Control pick-up walk. A few really nice new sculptures. Several also have moved - including the 60' or so chain of 5' spheres!

Most creative clue: "Middle of sculpture". Given a large 5x9 array of boxes (visualize open coffins), the control was laid down in the 'middle one', of course.

Orienteering 1:48:00 [3]

Designed and ran course on eastern half of Devil's lake map. Aim off, unusually accurate bearings (with fast settling back-up baseplate compass), pace count, and identifying green circles as conifers all paid off. Missed my #7 - did not aim off, counting inlet streams not feasible, and had no idea where I hit the stream. Ran rest nearly clean - very rare on DL terrain - felt good. Also slow due to rocks, deadfall, and raspberry fronds. But less thick overall than Sunday's work.

Swimming 26:00 [2]

Cool down and swim in DL - pleasant!

Orienteering 2:45:00 [2]

Western side of Devil's Lake map. Treated it more like 'model event' to build my confidence in map reading and to build confidence in map. Worked well. Boulder/rock face mapping lacked consistency - rest was fine. Bit htick on this end of map.

Swimming 14:00 [2]

Short cool-down swim, then dinner at the Barn.
