Walking 55:00 [2]

vigorous evening walk around snowy Tower Grove Park. Beautiful iced trees, especially back-lit by street lights. Lots of medium branches down; a couple large trees - nothing like in July. I guess they'll save a lot on next year's poruning budget. Ranger said many of the new replacement trees were damaged.

No log on morning snow shoveling and ice-scraping. Lost power for only 12 hours this time (5 days in July).

Orienteering 25:00 [1]

Put out 4 gallons of water at Turkey O'.

In doing so, I chased a flock of 8 turkeys that were celebrating that they'd survived the holiday - or perhaps they were acknowledging the race that we'd named in their honor.

Orienteering race 2:59:10 [4]

First 1.5+ hours: Good pace but ragged orienteering.

Seriously underestimated 1:15000 distance on 6 to 25 leg. Careful but hesitant up north. Serious error: poor planning (used rough bearing only) on 39 to 36: ended up too low and ran 150 m downstream instead of up.

Nearing 2 hours: Brain/focus shutting down.

Did not 'respect' short but tough leg from 29 to 23 (boulder near flat top of hill). Drifted right onto hilltop and totally lost contact with map. Pushed south; luckily hit trail; still confused; ran south 1K+ to junction - right by 4 controls (3 easy ones after 23) and 10 valuaable points.

Last 40 minutes:
Refocussed surprisingly well. Picked up 7 controls, 15 points on way in.

Final: 66/100 points; 3-way tie for about 12th place overall. Not bad for the physical shape I'm in. Still a clean run would have netted me about 77 points - much more satisfying:).
