Hiking 2:00:00 [3] 6.0 mi (20:00 / mi) +200m 18:07 / mi
shoes: Brooks Running 27

Hiking around the Van Lone Loop with Margaret! My knee felt pretty good for this - a bit twingy on the steep downhills, but good other than that. Nice to get out and chat even if it was raining pretty hard for about half the hike!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching.

Running 36:00 [3] 3.6 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 28

Running with Sam after work! Gorgeous day to be outside, so we headed out for an easy run in the evening. We saw a ton of animals around Beebe Lake. Sadly no beaver, but we did see a muskrat. The most amusing/scary part of the run was being attacked by a goose. We ran past a family of 2 parent geese and a bunch of goslings. The goslings were kind of idiots and didn't realize they were supposed to get out of the way while the parents hissed at us, so the the parents started flying really aggressively towards us while the goslings just sat on the side of the trail and watched the show. Luckily the geese were afraid of Sam when Sam acted like he was going to kick them because they didn't really seem worried about me at all. I tried hissing at the goose, but that just made it angrier (note to self: don't try that again!). We eventually escaped the evil goose family and then ran past some much nicer deer and then on home. Good to get out!

Strength 14:00 [3]

Normal abs and glutes.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching. Good thing it's the weekend because I'm exhausted!

Hiking 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 27

Walking with Margaret after lab! Margaret injured her knee, so she's been of running for weeks now, so we decided to just go for a walk today to catch up. My knee is feeling pretty good today, but I don't think I'm up for running two days in a row yet. Good to get out!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching.

Running 40:00 [3] 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 28

Running at Monkey Run! I submitted a proposal today, so I decided to treat myself to a Monkey Run run this evening. Nice sunny skies (although the high altitude smoke from Alberta, I assume, makes the light color strange) and perfect cool running weather. I ran up to the Cliffs of Varna and then ran most of the way back before my knee started feeling a bit off. This time hurting a bit on the top inside of the knee more in the muscle. No idea what's going on, but I figured I'd just walk the last mile or so in from there. It didn't hurt at all while walking. Good to get out!

Strength 9:00 [3]

Stretchy band glutes.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching. After a bit of pain on stairs and biking into work today, my knee was feeling basically fine for the rest of the day. Lots of walking around to and from different buildings for lots of meetings today and no issues, so that's good!

Strength 9:00 [3]

Glute stretchy band exercises. My knee is still a little bit sore when walking, going up and down stairs, and putting power through my bike pedal. I figured pulling back out the glute strength stuff was unlikely to hurt and might help. I've definitely lost some strength since the last time I did these. Probably good for me regardless of whether it has anything to do with whatever is going on with my knee.

Stretching 20:00 [3]

Normal stretching plus a LOOOONG time on the foam roller.

Running 50:00 [3] 5.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 28

Running with Sam at Monkey Run! My knee was hurting again this morning, but in a different place. On Friday, it hurt in the muscle just above the knee on the inside (i.e., not patellar tendonitis). This morning it hurt sort of in the front outside (i.e., not ITB on the outside, but not exactly under the knee cap either). I stretched a bunch and it felt a bit better, so we decided to see how running felt and I would just stop if it was hurting. Running was actually great and pain-free, much better than walking. We did the full run we'd planned up to the Cliffs of Varna. It was just a glorious day for running - sunny, cool, and breezy. So good to get out!!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching, with some extra emphasis on lots of foam rolling. My knee was feeling better after the run than before, but it was hurting a little bit walking up and down the stairs at the end of the day. I am so confused by whatever is going on...
