Nav-X at Briones with Presto! Awesome 2h score-O with Nav-X. Fourth overall and first woman. Woohoo! I made a highly overoptimistic plan to start with and then almost immediately deviated from the plan when I went up my first real hill only to realize my plan had me come straight back down that hill... I opted to continue on up the hill and get two 40 pointers on my way to the 80 pointer instead of getting a 30 pointer and a 50 pointer. After getting the 80 pointer, I realized I'd been out for 40 minutes and started jettisoning controls from my initial plan quickly. I was almost to the furthest point out I'd planned to go at an hour and decided to leave the 90 pointer out, since it was a bit further away. Then I tried to get a few controls that didn't involve *too* much extra climb on the way back (although it's Briones, so everything involves quite a lot of climb). At the very end, I opted to take my last 4 controls in an order that allowed me to get quickly back to the finish at any point in case I ran out of time, which was a smart move, but did mean that I had to climb an extra huge hill. Presto kind of mutinied on the last hill and had to be put on a leash. He'd been having a blast up until that point, but I guess he just didn't see the point in climbing a huge wall when we were so close to the car :-). We managed to get all of the controls in time, so in retrospect we could have taken them in a less stupid order, but it all worked out. Super fun day!

Running 31:46 [3] 3.1 mi (10:15 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 18

Running with Sam and Presto after lab! Nice to get in an evening run with Sam. It's harder to coordinate our schedules now that he works further away. Presto was extremely pleased to be running as a pack!

The fog was creeping towards us during the run. Once we got up the hill and got some views back down towards the Bay, we could see it a little bit closer each time we got a break in the houses. We finished the run before getting enveloped in fog, but it had engulfed the house before bedtime!

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs minus 1 set of tuckups. I got a funny twinging in my abs on the first set of tuckups and decided that I was not going to mess around with anything connected to my hip flexors. Everything else felt fine.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching with some extra attention to the abs/hip flexors.

Running 30:06 [3] 3.1 mi (9:43 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 18

Running with Presto after lab! Presto ate a pound of fig cookies yesterday (it's not entirely clear how since they were on top of the refrigerator!), so there was much stopping to deal with the consequences of that. The relative burden of carrying the fig cookies was shifted quite substantially from Presto to me by the end of the run... Oh Presto, and your inability to feel full!

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching.

Cross-Country Skiing 3:00:00 [3] 6.0 mi (30:00 / mi)

Cross-country skiing with Sam and Presto! The mountains got a ton of snow this week, so even though we'd been skiing last weekend, we decided to head up to take advantage of the fresh snow. We were intending to go to Carson Pass but when we were about 5 minutes away realized we failed to acquire a Sno Park Pass. We crossed our fingers that they would have passes at the trailhead, but alas, they did not. We'd already spent 1.5 hours in traffic trying to get past Sierra at Tahoe, so we were not excited to go anywhere near any other ski resorts to get a trail pass, so we just headed to Hope Valley instead.

They had like 4-5 feet of new snow (instead of like 4 inches last weekend). We started out in someone else's tracks, which was glorious, but pretty quickly caught the people breaking trail. We traded off with them for a little while, but they were only out for a quick jaunt, so we ended up on our own after that. My hip flexors were pretty much done with breaking trail after like 20-30 minutes, so Sam really did the brunt of the work with me just packing it down behind him and Presto floundering along after that. After all the work breaking trail on the way up the mountain, the way down was spectacular. Awesome, awesome day!

Stretching 10:00 [3]
