Weather decided no water needed to be carried, so sacked off the life vest for my bumbag, a bit too last minute to get everything sorted properly!
Felt good on the first climb, still jogging along. Pack eased away off the top but happy to let some of them work a bit to hard and I'd run my own race. Missed bits of trod on the line around Robinson and was caught by Scoffer, Charlie Loather and Harvey Lord. The first 2 took 20mins out of me between Honister and the finish, partly because I just lost gumption, was a bit negative and faffy (looked like a bit Angelos with map, bottle and food bag in my hand as I was struggling to stuff them in my bumbag after poor prep).
Caught Ted slipping backwards up Gamlin end, but then muffed up High Stile in the clag and Harvey got away. Followed his orange shorts around Red Pike - too far left - and ended up in heavy terrain, not on the path, into Scale Beck, before dropping too low - lines need to be learnt here! This had the DP V50 train and Wardy on my tail so I managed to get a bit of effort in up Melbreak, but had to put in a fast finish to hold off Spyke and John Hunt as my quads seized up a bit on the last track run.
Better prep and mentality required, but good to waste some bad lines and get a duff performance (still my best time by 13mins) out of the system before Wasdale. Nice day out - not much sun but still contrived to get some sharp burn lines. The return leg from Honister needs better mentality/prep as there's some rough ground you need to be ready to keep moving well over.
