Wasn't quite feeling it beforehand, but having missed Flower Scar I needed some fair points here. The carpark didn't seem that full, but surely not loads (several cars of Pennine team-mates excepted) were affected by the M6.
The plan was to get up the steep climb well, but so I could move well on the better running towards the summit. I managed to grind out a steady effort on the 1st bit and moved OK on the easier running, but it was a bit of a struggle and RickH and a few others opened up a good gap on me. Summited with Perry, Jon Morgan and Chris Edis, but behind Scoffer, RickH, Chris Leigh, Woodsy, Joe Baxter and more I should be mixing it with/closer to (Scoff had run to Wasdale!).
Not much to comment on the way down. Followed Perry's line off the top and got into my running. Hit the steep bit and loads came back to me. Over the stile and the steeper, grassy off-camber bit and I closed down Joe and Scoff. Onto the track and over the bridge with Jelly legs. Got Oscar Meanwell (thought he was a good descender) and Dave Taylor. Tried to get Shaun Gadsman to aid DP in the team prize but legs were very jelly. Held off Ted by 1sec - had passed him on the more runnable uphill section as he was hacking up a lung.
Interesting to see Charlotte Watson running (albeit further down the field than you'd probably expect) 2 weeks before a WOC Classic
