With Ramsey Moor cancelled spent another day in New Mills. Beautiful clear day with the snow still about, so I of course spent it inside relaxing. Figured that 3 days of snowploughing was enough, so with eyes on next weekend decided to wait until I was back in Sheffield to take advantage of predominantly clear roads for a steadier run.

Getting a bit better at doing what I need, not what I want at the moment. Well, as far as ensuring my running goes OK. Do need to keep an eye on the unnecessary biscuit intake though, it's crept up in the last couple of weeks, maybe due to fighting off a bit of a cold.

Snuck a CR off Spartacus. Cruising.

Edale Skyline and 3 Peaks entered.

Running - Trail 1:29:32 intensity: (2:32 @2) + (40:00 @3) + (47:00 @4) 14.06 km (6:22 / km) +532m 5:21 / km

Kinder Trial, shortened due to snow.

Plumped for Anticlockwise (again). Lost 40s straight off by starting to go via Stubbs farm before reading that it was OOB.
Struggled up Elle Bank to #1, got moving a bit over to Mount Famine (#2) before a powdery little-trodden line to the rowan trees (#3) - much easier to spot in snow than normal.
Next control was marked just up from the Sett on a wall, but the description said gate/fence. Spent 2.5min looking at/below the wall before heading up, where the first Clockwise starters were coming down saying it was up the hill. Trudged up to see everyone - Tom Brunt, Simon Hardin, Dave, Ian, James Logue, Little Rob hitting it bang on on their clockwise route.
Got a bit hacked off at the unnecessary time loss and put the boot in from here. One perk of my AC route choice was that all the route had been well bashed by the majority of competitors, who had gone clockwise.
Struggled a bit up to Chad's Cabin - caught sight of Rob Taylor (M65) and he never seemed to get any closer! Hit my last CP before using a bit of local knowledge to run down to Little Hayfield, off the map and straight back to the scout hut. Probably a bit closer to 'base cheating' than 'a little bit cheeky', confessed to Andy but he was OK with it. So a slightly dodgy 3rd place, 2min down on Tom Brunt, 1min down on Si Harding.

Muddy, slushy and snowy from the parents'. Bit of golf course snow fullmoon action.

Snowy Rivelin with Jonny and Willy for a short while. First up Wyming brook, favourite place when it snows. Great fun coming back along the top path and Golf Course.

Running - Road 25:28 [1] 4.7 km (5:25 / km) +93m 4:56 / km

Very sedate morning stroll

Running - Road intervals 1:00:58 intensity: (8:00 @1) + (20:58 @2) + (16:00 @4) + (16:00 @5) 14.13 km (4:19 / km) +123m 4:08 / km
rhr:38 slept:8.0 shoes: NB 580 v3 (Blue/Black)

4x8min(2) up to and past Oughtibridge.
3:50, 3:50, 3:37, 3:38 paces. First 2 gentle uphill with slight headwind. Last 2 the reverse. Felt fairly comfortable on the first 2, a bit harder on the last 2 but moving well and felt like good form.

Set this session in my watch once in from this morning's run. Felt pretty good all day but in the last hour or so before I left Uni I started feeling a bit off - all mental? Felt pretty good once moving on each rep and good after, more to give.

Running - Road 20:11 [2] 3.88 km (5:12 / km) +57m 4:51 / km
rhr:41 slept:8.0 shoes: NB 580 v3 (Blue/Black)

Easy HFW.
Not feeling any worse than yesterday, but figured intervals was insensible, also as still a little tired from the weekend. Burger and chips for lunch wouldn't have helped either. If I'm feeling alright tomorrow morning I'll do intervals in the evening, before the snow arrives (hopefully).

Bike intervals 36:00 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (10:00 @2) + (16:00 @4)
shoes: CB Turbotrainer

Set up the turbo to get myself at least sweating today.
5min wu resistance 1
8x2/75 (resistance 4/2)
5min wd res.1

Did the first 2 in a slightly easier sprocket before upping it a bit.
The thinking of the turbo is to improve my hill climbing, augmenting normal hills without the long recoveries you get doing hill repeats. I've noticed over the last few days that the muscles in my legs have changed slightly compared to when I was spending a lot of time in the hills last summer

Note

Feeling a bit of a cold coming on, hopefully with sensibility shouldn't linger.

In other news, Andy's playing silly buggers with the Kinder Trial start-list again:

Dave Ward 10:46:00
Tom Bush 10:46:30
Rob Little 10:48:00
Ian Mills 10:49:30
Neil Northrop 10:51:00
Simon Coldrick 10:52:00
Simon Harding 10:54:00
James Logue 10:54:30
Tom Brunt 10:55:00
Nicholas Barber 10:56:00. Bugger. It's going to be a long solo day out.
On the plus side, he's got Tom Brunt down as Holmfirth, which makes the team prize a bit more open...
5 PM

Opted out of drills, bit tired. Shuffled home, fluctuating between feeling alright and a bit buggered.
