Dodgy stomach resolved itself prior to kick-off, but still feeling a bit out of it.
Danny was 18th on leg 1, Wardy was injured (well he hasn't stopped since UTMB) so was replaced by Mark alongside Nat on 2, as such lost a couple of minutes on where we could have been but good run nonetheless. Some good chat with the commentator after making 'call me' signs at him. He initiated it but I can't remember how (honest 'guv!).
Myself and new recruit from Macc, Ian Mills (10th Borrowdale, 1st Downfall) set out in around 24th, big pack 1min or so ahead, HBT not far behind.
First thoughts as I got the map was 'pile of piss, most on line features, little route choice'. This lead me into a massive false sense of security and, as we left B, having just passed Steve Birkenshaw, I briefly glanced at my compass, followed his line then followed the group on the horizon, head down and run. Ended up quite a bit west of control C. Lost ~2min minimum, although lots around us (Keswick, Carnethy, DPvets, CV Open) lost more. Bit of a fudge leaving E, wanting to cross valley higher to svae height but too steep so had to re-drop a bit of height. Tired a bit after 55mins, Keswick ran away but stuck with Carnethy, although DPvets arrived. Kept ahead of HBT.
Felt like I was moving well on the hill, and Ian complemented my speed and strength. However, looking at the leg times (17th, beaten by Mudge/Jasmin as well as Quentin) I'm frustrated, maybe I'm not fully up to speed? For current states it was a good comfortable-hard effort. Finished in 17/18th (dependent on Eryri finishing blunders - not marked on map though so don't think they can really be DQ'd?).
Team finished 16th (15th club) - we sent Simon out with Tom Adams, Andy Fallas and Max Wharton nearby and, whilst he is very good, he's still getting into it after the cow episode. At least solidified ourselves as the Peak District's 'best of the west'. On the men's side at least - the ladies beat DPFR ladies!
