Running - Trail warm up/down 11:07 [2] 2.2 km (5:03 / km) +30m 4:44 / km
shoes: X-talon 212 (4 - 2014)

Running - Trail race (Lad's Leap) 50:14 [4] 9.43 km (5:20 / km) +468m 4:16 / km
shoes: X-talon 212 (4 - 2014)

1 Andy Swift 49:03 (102.4%)
2 Ross Litherland 50:03
3 Tricky Ricky Guillaume 50:10
4 Me 50:14
5 Gareth Briggs 50:16

Lovely day in Crowden. Wasn't expecting much of myself but, whilst I'd normally expect to be fighting Andy for the win, I feel I'm getting back into shape. OK up the first hill and moved well along the pipeline and descent to gain time and places. Really struggled up the fire track, Gareth pulled away, Rich went through me before Ross did as well even more so, with a DP lad catching me just after we crossed the stile onto the bog. Got as much out of my quads as I could, which wasn't much. Took me a while to get going once on the flat at Lad's Leap, took the DP kid at the top of the descent, reeled in Gareth and got him at the YHA. Rich was in the cross-hairs but the extra gear I normally have in this situation was lacking today.

1st Derbyshireian so possibly the least impressive County Champion going at the moment. Impressive running from Rich. Foot felt fine. Time to let the winter's training sink in a bit - Pendle may be a bit early for me but will give it my all. Coniston should be where it's at. Good to see Fell Running Briefs and The Fanning Magnet back in the hills (just moved from Landan to Holmfirth)

7 mins quicker than 2010.

Running - Trail warm up/down 9:56 [1] 1.56 km (6:21 / km) +55m 5:24 / km
shoes: X-talon 212 (4 - 2014)

Note

got a bit of pain on the top of my foot (where ankle becomes foot). Dr. Google suggests tendonitis at the top of the extendor tendon. Ibuprofen, rubbing then rest next week.

Christmas weight...
Biked out to Poynton. I may be a shit cyclist but I'm better than a lot of duffers on the road!

Running - Trail 1:45:00 [2] 17.45 km (6:01 / km) +516m 5:15 / km
shoes: X-talon 212 (3 - 2013)

Pennine Handicap (6 controls on OS map, looking for tags the size of a 50p piece) from Higher Poynton. Doing my best Mr. Darcy impression around and about Lyme Park. Lovely day, if a bit windy on the way out. Fields were muddy and I had no idea Cheshire had tussocks! 5 minutes lost looking for a tag on a stile. 3 stiles on the wall and I convinced myself Dave had hidden it well on the first (wrong) one. Had intended this to be a more steady run but soon had other ideas and bumbled around. Wardy did 1:37

Pissing it down once back in The Mills. Fairy, but a day off probably warranted.

Work 00:00-09:00. Sleep 09:30-15:00
Quickly turned into a Kenyan shuffle, slowest I've run in ages. Left me feeling much better though! This counts as pre-breakfast, although said breakfast was pork loin with 7 veg 3 ways.

slept:10.0 shoes: Mudclaw 265

Pre-nights day off. Took in the 3 (White) Peaks from Derbyshire Bridge - Axe Edge, Shutlingsloe, Shining Tor. Terrain for the first few miles then paths of varying runnability. Nice morning out, tried to hail on me twice. Kept plodding along a bit tired from last night, top of L foot a bit sore at end.

Running - Road warm up/down 20:30 [2] 4.49 km (4:34 / km) +43m 4:22 / km
shoes: NB580 v2 Red (2)

Running - Road intervals 40:40 intensity: (11:05 @1) + (3:39 @3) + (25:56 @5) 10.68 km (3:49 / km)
slept:8.5 shoes: NB 760 'racers'

8x1km (200jog) with Seb, Danny, Dave B for the first 5 and Notts AC's Tom Gayle who is by all accounts a bit of a Stoke AC legend.

3:12, 12, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 14.
Felt good for the first 5, but the cliff approached and I went from 'try and get them all under 3:15' after number 5 to 'god, just hang on and for <3:20 for the last 2' after number 6. Tom and Seb, who were maybe 20m ahead on the first 5 suddenly accelerated at this point to 3:02 pace so I was on my own with Dave gone and Dan struggling behind - but had him right on me on the last on so dug it out. Seemed to struggle most between 200 and 600m.

Feeling better and John said my running style looks much better than it did last week. Obviously need to go to a wedding every weekend!

Running - Road warm up/down 9:23 [1] 1.68 km (5:36 / km) +4m 5:32 / km

Perception of Elite Orienteers in the UK?
Overheard at download yesterday. No splits so download official was telling finishers their time, position and winner's time. I overheard this convo:
"x minutes, x position. The Winner did 60"
"60?! Who was that?"
"Hector Haines"
"Oh, well he shouldn't be at an event like this"

suffice to say I found it difficult to veil the mockery and scorn in my response. He may have noticed.
6 PM

Running - Road 47:51 intensity: (27:51 @2) + (20:00 @3) 10.28 km (4:39 / km) +104m 4:26 / km
shoes: NB580 v2 Red (2)

Took yesterday's map with me, as I used it so little I thought it should get a bit of use. looked at it for the first 15mins or so. Haven't analysed yesterday yet but the course was a bit too fresh for this to be much use.
Felt quite good, good tired not knackered, so went a bit further and faster than initially intended for a recovery. At least it felt a bit faster but in actuality wasn't.
