Trying to wake up my legs and my head

Orienteering 1:17:19 [3] ***** 10.64 km (7:16 / km) +447m 6:00 / km
spiked:14/24c shoes: Mudclaw 265

SL: 9.0/420. Winner: HHaines 01:00:26 (128%)It didn't work. I spent very little time looking at my map and plenty of time clambering over crags looking at a nice grassy line below me, being way too high on controls. Bruce Duncan caught me en route to 12 (and so ruined my 'I was at a wedding last night' excuse) so I was better from then on, but only because I was mainly following his lead. 17 mins behind Hector (and only 2 behind Clare Ward) actually felt like a bit of a result given how laughably inept I was. The bottom of the barrel, but still a gorgeous day out.

Time to stop pissing about.

Running - Trail 1:02:35 [1] 6.03 km (10:22 / km) +571m 7:02 / km
shoes: Mudclaw 265

Figured I should make use of being in the locale and check out the Coniston descent. Very stop start as was buggered by now. Still non the wiser - what looks like a nice runnable line when going up is horrid when heading down. I may even revert to my maverick outflanking-route from the wall-and-crane come race day. Another look (or 8) needed.

Running - Trail 55:35 [3] 11.07 km (5:01 / km) +203m 4:36 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: Mudclaw 265

Wedding morning trot about Scout Scar (if you're a Fell Runner)/Helsington Barrows (if an orienteer) with Rhesus (and a) Monkey. Felt the loosest I have done on a run in a while -and I'm not just talking about my guts.

Followed by a great day including my oldest friend becoming a Spainiard, The Gang 'en masse' for the first time in a decade, plates piled high with food, not decking it over a ha-ha wall, pro-ceilidh (me and sis nailing the strip the willow like we' were doing it when we were 10. Strange that...) dangerous ceilidh (adventure racers, a basket and a table full of glasses in close proximity), freestyle ceilidh (including 8-person basket), air guitar, being thrown on the floor by Tedwards and Shelf and being proud of my sister plying Rhys with beer at 2am.

Running - Road hills 1:17:48 intensity: (19:12 @1) + (34:19 @2) + (24:17 @5) 16.41 km (4:44 / km) +471m 4:09 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: NB580 v2 Red (2)

6x Penkhull New Road in, up, off reps.
today: 3:45, 3:53, 4:03, 4:08, 4:16, 4:12 (3rd session in 5 days)
28 Jan: 3:44, 3:50, 3:53, 3:59, 4:02, 4:07 (off 10 solid days including Midlands XC)

Bit windy coming once the hill was crested. The main thing today was to get the session in the bank. Yes it was slower than last time but I was in good form then. On the plus side, I stayed on my forefoot for all the uphills this time, don't think I did that last time.

S&C 18:30 intensity: (18:00 @1) + (30 @3)
slept:7.5 (rest day)

Figured Thursday wasn't actually a rest day and I'm still feeling a little worn out, but on the way out of it. Some core whilst watching Contador cheat at paintball.

Running - Road warm up/down 20:09 [2] 4.36 km (4:37 / km) +37m 4:26 / km
shoes: NB580 v2 Red (2)

planned morning jog nixed by setting, but not saving my alarm. I do this very frequently.

Running - Road intervals 40:27 intensity: (9:00 @1) + (5:27 @2) + (2:00 @3) + (24:00 @5) 9.72 km (4:10 / km) +5m 4:09 / km
slept:8.5 shoes: NB 760 'racers'

6x1200 with Dean, Liam and Dan. Windy in the back straight, especially in the last 2 - Dean recons worth 5s a rep? Alas not an entire session as rep 3 became 800m and rep 4 900m courtesy of a toilet break. Body didn't feel good at all but got them all around 3:56-58 pace, even with the wind. Not stellar but solid and comfortable.

Running - Trail 39:14 [2] 8.26 km (4:45 / km) +131m 4:24 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: X-talon 212 (3 - 2013)

Recovery about Swynnerton. Very dry but a lot of trees down - what happened when I was away! Felt tired all day and quads were a bit tired here but moving OK. Well, I shuffled after 25mins. Handed my notice in at work today, so hopefully the background stress of not having everything under complete control will ease.
8 weeks of work, then close on 4 months of hills and forests of the UK and Europe before heading back to Sheffield. Cannae wait!
9 PM

S&C 10:00 [1]

with The Last Leg.
followed by a stretch and roll with Stewart Lee
