Note

ahha, Power of 10 has finally realised I'm a fell runner as well and all the results I've entered as Pennine this year are now attributed to me. Excellent.

3 good weeks of training done, planning on keeping it going for another 3 weeks, keeping it sensible still (don't want to be 'that guy'...) - a bit of soreness in my quad to keep an eye on but it rubs out (whay!) well - before having an easy week into FToP and, most importantly, SPOOK weekend!

9 AM

Running - Trail long 2:25:49 intensity: (2:05:49 @2) + (20:00 @3) 26.42 km (5:31 / km) +759m 4:50 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: X-talon 212 (3 - 2013)

Long un from Leek with Dolph Lungren lookalike Will Neill. Decided not to race Passing Clouds and it proved a good decision, felt a bit tired after yesterday although wasn't staggering around as much as I could have which is good but felt far from fresh. Out around Tittesworth Resser, N along the Roaches, looping about Gradbach and back over Gun. Managed to round out a 100km week as well, always a bonus (although 49 of them came in the weekend!).

9 AM

Running - Road 27:53 [2] 6.06 km (4:36 / km) +26m 4:30 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: NB580 v2 Red (1)

Morning shake-out to rid myself of the vestiges of a hangover (SPOOK prep). For fans of pottery, I passed Spode and Portmerion.
1 PM

Running - Trail warm up/down 21:26 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (1:26 @3) 4.14 km (5:11 / km) +11m 5:06 / km
shoes: NB749 Trail

Running - Trail race (North Staffs XC, Stafford) 37:43 [5] 10.21 km (3:42 / km) +30m 3:38 / km
shoes: AT Cross

Back on the XC. Felt like I paced it well. Course had some clarty bits - wasn't as smooth through these as I can be due to heavy legs - but was generally pretty firm, a shame as I'd heard tales of a mudbath in previous years. Pulled away from some of the training group after the first lap (although one had lost his shoe). Ahead of some of the guys who normally blitz me on a Tuesday, but they are more middle distancers which fits.

9th place (had a good battle in the last mile, still got a sprint finish though) in a fairly strong field, 6th and final counter for the team, a handy debut after John said somewhere between 5-15th was what I should aim for. Pleased with my run.

a very steady warm down, including watching Mike searching for his right shoe in the muddiest section of the course.

Man people moan a lot at XC, even the winner! It's too muddy, it's not muddy enough, I'd rather it was one or the other, it's too windy (it wasn't), I don't think we ever dropped below 6min/mile. Moan moan moan!

Note
slept:7.5 (rest day)

Was all geared up to go out, then the heavens opened and, as I was on a tight schedule, decided that a full day off wouldn't hurt after the last few weeks.

Pennine Thursday headtorcher. Cracking. Downfall route to the top of Sandy Heys, then down. Struck out on my own from there as needed to get back to the pub to pick up mum. Booted it down the road with bats in my headlamp beam. Windy, can tell there's some weather on the way in.

Running - Road 1:00:17 [2] 11.9 km (5:04 / km) +193m 4:41 / km
slept:6.5 shoes: NB749 Trail

Pretty knackered after 2 early starts in a row but wanted to make the most of the last light evening. Staggered past Stoke City training ground and into Trentham common, starting to feel much more human once on the way back home.

Running - Trail 10:00 [1] 1.7 km (5:53 / km) +5m 5:48 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: AT Cross

So after charging the garmin last night (always try and keep it at 100%) it decided it wasn't going to play ball tonight. As such all times/distances are good estimates.

4 horseshoes of the grass round the stadium, checking my XC spikes are as they were.

Running - Road 1:06:00 intensity: (12:00 @1) + (18:00 @2) + (18:00 @3) + (18:00 @5) 14.1 km (4:41 / km) +50m 4:36 / km
shoes: NB580 v2 Red (1)

28min warm up moving towards a good pace (6)
minimal strides .1
6x3min(2min). covered around 940, 950, 930, 900, 920, 930 (6.3)
4 laps in lane 3 wd (1.7)

Felt OK on the first 2 reps, but then the weekend and an early start this morning took its toll. However got going a bit again in the last 2. Quite happy I can churn these out when jaded.

Felt pretty pooped but again, once out the door felt really good so pushed on a bit more than intended at times.
