Cracking day in the lakes. Early start meant I got more cool weather than most. Cracker of a day, so no problems with the nav.
Started with Tim Beale and stretched my legs on the run out to the maps and the first track, feeling good but missed the path to the Hause Gate col, so went direct through marsh and Bull Crag onto Maiden Moor. Easy into the control as could be seen for miles.
Followed JonM (6min man) out initially, but then took more of a contour around High Spy. Hit 2 and 3 (short leg) dead on whilst agonising over the RC to number 4. As it happens I got the right route, skirting SW of the Dale Head Summit, over Hindscarth before dropping into Littledale - all runnable apart from 400m scree.
Big contour to 5 (having been told I was having a good run by the marshals at 4), then a big contour round Knott Rigg, which lead me right into Sail Pass. Passed people here which kept me going as I started to feel a bit rubbish.
Hit #6 and was told I was only the 2nd through (49th starter). I'd initially planned to take the Coledale rout S of Outerside but eventually plumped for the contour N - my only mistake as, although quite runnable it was no why near as fast as the path, and I managed to drop a bit too much and had to clamber through heather at the end (Hello Dan...).
Slight Dogleg to 8, getting as much food as I could in. Hit it at the same time as Rhys (started 49mins after me...). The fast into 9 and the finish (not mucking up the last control like a certain winner...)

Finished 8th, 40min down on Rhys and 4secs down on Camel. Really pleased with that, Fell highlight so far? Felt great for the first 2 hours, and it carried through a lot better than at Borrowdale. Still work to be done. OMM partner was an hour slower than me (been doing lots of cycling and not much running of late), so looks like I get the heavy bag!

http://www.obasen.nu/winsplits/online/en/default.a... paced myself well, clambering up the rankings throughout, although lost 3-4mins on #7 to those around me, losing a couple of places

The aborted Harrop Tarn day from Lakes5 2010. Did the first 11 controls (including a diversion to Armboth Fell, ticking off another Wainwright) before I couldn't be bothered with the next 2 long legs, so I jogged back through the wood. Nav OK, Just 3 and 4 where I wasn't really sure what was going on - the problem with no kites!

Checking out a few lines on the Roseberry race. Some useful info but I'll make a decision on the day (partly dependant on weather in the days previous), then change my mind and regret it. I've had all summer to do this but didn't.
Went for a loop round the moor to get some flat in.
oww my legs hurt.

Tempo-ish 4km loop to start
Wait for BMHH to get sorted then jog to ramp
'hills' session - i.e. 3xshort (20secs) and long (1:25ish) sprints up ramps back to back. Not a great session but enough to reintroduce myself to the pain of intervals, and what a reintroduction!
back home, with the usual increase in pace in the last 5 mins, and a few cooler laps of the track

These double-rests must stop, but didn't have much choice today.

slept:7.0 (rest day)

Tuesdays back singing. I'm currently feeling very schizophrenic: I swing from feeling great to feeling knackered, from wanting to do a load of XC-relevant training ahead to resting up until the OMM!

Up River. Forgot that the path around the nature reserve gets a bit heavy even after a spell of dry weather.
