Event: Poultry Run

11 AM

Running - Road warm up/down 17:36 [2] 3.63 km (4:51 / km) +43m 4:35 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR3

A bit of warming up with Shaun.
Once I'd finished the Garmin decided to show 0% battery despite me charging it up last night. I hope it's not buggered. Ditched it for the old school casio and mapmyrun.

Running - Road race (Poultry Run) 46:50 [5] 12.69 km (3:41 / km) +135m 3:30 / km
shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR3

8-mile undulating road/trail race (about 2km of trail/field all told). A cold wind on top of the hill (very close to the sea) resulting in a headwind on the way back.
The start was a surprise, no chat, no countdown, just a hooter.
Pretty soon I settled into the 3rd group with 2 other guys (and apparently the first lady but I didn't know this even though Shaun said she was right on my shoulder!). Stuck with them to 2 miles but the guys pulled away just before the first field section, and I wanted to save something and kept it comfy. Was passed on the next road section, but managed to get dragged up to a New Marske guy who had dropped off the original 2nd group. Had a good battle up the last hill to the beacon then dropped him on the descent. Another guy came with me but pulled away significantly as the road levelled out a bit. In the last 2 miles I was closing in on the Loftus guy who was in our original gruop of 3 and managed to get him about 800m out and hold on for 10th place (out of 310). Pleased considering the wind and tiredness - feeling strong just not got the leg speed at the moment - will need some tips on how to develop it over Feb/March!

Ricky Stevenson won in 40:34, so 2 minutes closer than last weekend!

Route - old school MMR

There's a feeling of having raced hard after races like this/XC that I don't get in fell running, possibly as I'm very aware of having to look after myself in remote areas and the need to conserve energy to get myself back if something goes wrong, even in short races.

Running - Road tempo 18:39 [4] 5.0 km (3:44 / km) +10m 3:42 / km

Was expecting to go into work this morning, but woke to a message saying I wasn't needed. As I was up thought it would be rude to not to go to Parkrun so I donned my santa hat and tip-toed onto the ice.
Pretty slippery so very slow, spent most of it on the grass. Ran the first km with Chris Rumsey then pulled away. A few lairy moments on the ice by the finish but kept the lead.
Felt a bit leggy.

The apparent Hallam XC captain (BMHHer) was there. Banter start then rolled in in about 25 mins, didn't even register his time. Good luck boys!

Running - Road 21:19 [2] 4.06 km (5:15 / km) +11m 5:11 / km

Trot around after with Shaun and Neal. Bambis on ice

ahr:151 max:176 slept:9.0 shoes: New Balance M849

Had a nap after work, didn't feel great but the 300hr for the year mark is 50mins-a-day away. Wasn't expecting much but felt pretty good cruising along, the driving icy rain only served to spur me on. Felt really easy for the first 40/45mins as I got down to the 4.20 mark, the last 15 or so was a bit harder but managed to keep the pace despite feeling pretty slow at this point. Looking forward to Sunday's race.

endorphin creating run - it sort of worked. Out around the riverside, 2 x infinity bridge and a tees barrage. No lights on, minced a bit in case of ice.

Note
slept:8.0 (rest day)

Was planning on going to CLOK's informal night score around Norton, but after how I felt during last night's run and not picking up today I think I'm due a rest. Tomorrow will be the same as it's the work's Christmas do.

Tour de tacky Christmas luight, Low Grange and Longfellow loop. Felt pretty shagged, one more tempo tomorrow then, saving Sunday's race, a rest until it's time to hit the hills when I get back home.
