Orienteering race (SLMM Day2) 3:50:49 [3] *** 19.9 km (11:36 / km) +855m 9:33 / km
spiked:7/9c slept:9.0 shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

We didn't make the chasing start, so we had quite a relaxed morning and no pressure. It was a good boost to overtake a lot of people up the insane climb out of the valley (~350m in 1km - makes heroes look flat!). I though Ash wasn't looking too great, but on the way to 2, as the weather deteriorated it became clear that he was back to normal and I was hoping we'd be able to maintain a good pace throughout. 2+3 came and went easily as we left the hoards behind us, and we were now pretty much on our own. #s 5+6 had slightly iffy GRs, or slightly iffy control placings. We lost ~3mins on 5 looking on the western marsh (it was on the eastern), and ~4mins at 6 looking north of the knoll, where the given GR said the control was. Thankfully on this one we saw someone came into the control behind us. (Rhys also had these controls and confirmed that it wasn't just my dodgy marking up of the map.) 7,8&9 were just a case of jogging in with no mistakes, tho we did miss number 8 to the north, got excited and ran downhill instead of along it was only by a couple of minutes.
2nd on the day, dragging us up to 6th overall. Surprisingly the team that blew everyone away yesterday lost a lot, and were taken by the 2nd placed overnight (who were 18mins ahead of us on the day.)

Note

Oh, and the Orocs were fantastic this weekend!

Orienteering race (SLMM Day1) 4:51:56 [3] *** 22.1 km (13:13 / km) +1020m 10:44 / km
spiked:7/9c slept:6.0 shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 Yellow 2

Very nice day weatherwise, and I may have looked a tool in my long sleeved white shirt and cap, but I didn't get burnt! Took us 7mins to mark up our map, and I still didn't get the circles in the right place! This lost us time at 2 (3/4mins) where Ash had it right but I though I did. (Needless to say after this I checked all GRs on approach to all controls) We then fluffed the exit to the track. oops.
Other than that, rc leaving #6 at Lingmell End prob cost us a bit - we went back and round - as opposed to straight off the end - as we chickened it. I'd jarred my ankle on the approach as an extra excuse.
Throughout the day I was feeling great, but it was clear after #4 that Ash wasn't, and we were quite slow up High Raise and High Street. Still, a pretty good performance, 8th. 55mins down on the leader, but only 28 down on 2nd.
