pootling about, including leading Marcus down a treacherous bracken bank.

Orienteering race (Treeton Local) 56:35 [3] ***** 7.8 km (7:15 / km) +200m 6:26 / km
spiked:19/24c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 Yellow 2

Nice cruise around the brown. Iffy on 1 (went up just to go down) and hesitant on the approach to 1 + 2 getting into the scale of the map. Got a bit of help from Rach and Tom respectively, but still punched first at both - good relay practice hanging off the backs of others. Other than that wasn't too bad. Went up instead of down and around to 7, and poor route choice and hesitancy throughout on 16 lost me a fair bit of ground. Scrappy through the last bit. Otherwise, not too bad. Struggling a bit on hills - needs rectifying. A few little wobbles in the circle, but this, and my flow, was much better than normal.

exam 2 of 6. Both of them this week have gone quite well, with an essay question I knew well and 2 to pick the final q from which I could get enough info down.

Playing Hispanic Sports A, I think. They were pretty good, but not brilliant. We held them off, but a lucky ricochet fell to them just outside the box and they beat Faz. Lucky. They found their shooting boots in the second half and it ended 5-1. We were playing well, but again all our players in one half of the field, so there was little outlet to the pressure we were being put under. Treb made his debut - the boy can tackle, and his reading of the game wasn't too bad for a novice - with a little practice he'll be good. Had 2 chances of my own - a sweet bit of link-up play with JT had me through from the half-way line, but I got muscled off the ball before I could pull the trigger. Then Martin put me one-on-one, but I had to stop to get the ball so took an unneeded touch before putting it tamely into the 'keeper's hands.
In the last 10mins we were playing really well, but we needed Ash/John in the middle to hold the ball up so people could create passing opportunities.
Played most of the match as there was only 8 of us, and covered a fair amount of ground.

Wet&Muddy. Bole Hill, Stables, very muddy Allotments, Den Bank, Stairs, back along Sandygate, Lydgate, Crookes, School and Crookesmoor. John was admiring my muddy rear.

Circle Relay. There was an odd number, so The Minge and I being of about even pace ran as one person with Lawrence (who Benji kept referring to as Loz which worried me...). He was a bit slower than us, so The Minge and I had fairly decent length reps of ~800m each.
Effectively ~2.40mins effort with ~40secs recovery.
bloody muddy!

NightO at Loxley. First time I've done NightO not on an urban/park map. Was a bit slow but not too bad. Wrong rc on #2, and it went even wronger. Other than that a little hesitant in the circle at 3 and 8. Few long-way-round safety RCs, and a few bits of bad luck not being able to see the control clearly with my headtorch and lack of peripheral. Otherwise, bearings were good and I'm moving quite well.

Pounding out some agression form revision and classical music all day.
Headed down the road to Philadelphia. After a few laps and confused looks I eventually found the venue for Wednesday's exam. Then headed up to Walkley, Crookes, Lydgate, then 2 nice fast downhill efforts into Broomhill and down Crookesmoor Road.
