Oh. My. Days. Not done a long run in about 6 months, and what a way to break the trend - without a doubt the best run I've ever done, especially on my own. A fair amount of it was in terrain as well :) The snow's been flirting with us for a few days and it wasn't that thick when I left. Down to the trail (where legs were feeling a bit tired) then up to Lantern Pike (24.5mins - not much slower than normal). Then down the other side through Hey Wood and Brookhouse to the A624 and Carr Meadow. Sttarted off up the track to Chad's Cabin, but quickly turned off to bash through the snowy heather to The Knott. Checked the map and set a bearing across Leygatehead Moor for Mill Hill. Hit a stream and checked the map again, but re-located off a stream a km further down the hill, so hit the path much sooner than expected just to the right of Mill Hill, headed right to the top of William Clough. Was intending to head up to Sandy Heys, but the wind was blowing sleet at me and I didn't fancy that an exposed descent in that weather! So headed down the clough, then up to Chad's Cabin. Down via twenty trees into Hayfield, then back along the Trail. Picked the speed up here to try and lower the average speed, and felt surprisingly good!
Had to slow down at times to make sure I didn't end on me arse, but was running well.
Awesome day, and it's just dumped a couple of inches of propper snow. :)
Route went something like
this (although I took the distance and climb from the OS map. )
