Oh. My. Days. Not done a long run in about 6 months, and what a way to break the trend - without a doubt the best run I've ever done, especially on my own. A fair amount of it was in terrain as well :) The snow's been flirting with us for a few days and it wasn't that thick when I left. Down to the trail (where legs were feeling a bit tired) then up to Lantern Pike (24.5mins - not much slower than normal). Then down the other side through Hey Wood and Brookhouse to the A624 and Carr Meadow. Sttarted off up the track to Chad's Cabin, but quickly turned off to bash through the snowy heather to The Knott. Checked the map and set a bearing across Leygatehead Moor for Mill Hill. Hit a stream and checked the map again, but re-located off a stream a km further down the hill, so hit the path much sooner than expected just to the right of Mill Hill, headed right to the top of William Clough. Was intending to head up to Sandy Heys, but the wind was blowing sleet at me and I didn't fancy that an exposed descent in that weather! So headed down the clough, then up to Chad's Cabin. Down via twenty trees into Hayfield, then back along the Trail. Picked the speed up here to try and lower the average speed, and felt surprisingly good!
Had to slow down at times to make sure I didn't end on me arse, but was running well.
Awesome day, and it's just dumped a couple of inches of propper snow. :)

Route went something like this (although I took the distance and climb from the OS map. )

Back home for Chrizzy.
Woke up and it was about -5 and solid ground. was -4 when I headed out on some paths that I have hardly ever been on due to a) them always being far too muddy, and b) a traumatic experiance with an arsey horse when I was 8ish. This showed as I kept on loosing the path to Rowarth and dicking about in people's front gardens, farmers fields and even on top of someone's septic tank.
From Rowarth wanted to head to the north of Lantern Pike, but kept on following the bridleway and ended up on Stitch Lane. Couldn't be bothered going on the road for too long so went a-trespassing to get to the Pike, then headed back above Little Hayfield, around the bottom of the resser and back along the trail. Pretty slow most of the time as I was wondering where the paths were going. Sped up a bit once on the trail. Nice easy crisp morning run.
Felt toasty warm (a tropical -2 when I got back)

Note

afternoon putting the lights up on the outside tree and watching Dad hitting the Christmas tree with a plank of wood to try and get it out of the bucket it was frozen in.
Ground is frozen solid, and as Snow is forcast for tomorrow I'm holding up for awesomeness!

Not enough hours in the day! (although plenty of time to fall asleep in lectures - don't ask why I stayed infront of the computer until 2.30am doing nothing!)
Lab project finished. I managed to take one of the most promising algae for biofuel use and turn it into a crap one - 2.5mg of oil from 25mls of culture - not a particularly great result, but a result nonetheless!

Head to head with Dave, Ash and Rocke Jnr then a little train. O was pretty shoddy. Running OK though.

Orienteering 13:20 [4] **** 1.5 km (8:53 / km) +30m 8:05 / km
spiked:12/14c shoes: New Balance N1024

ShortCourse around the Collegiate campus. Set off ~2mins after Dave (on map mamary) and ~1min after Ash. Gained on them both, but then wurzled them good and proper with a rc taking a good 300m out of theirs, On a 250m leg! Bonza! Ash cheated to restore parity but then let us past. Good fun on a good course planned by John.

Running - Road 42:00 [3] 8.7 km (4:50 / km) +130m 4:30 / km
shoes: New Balance N1024

Out via Lydgate, Crosspool, Sandygate, Ranmoor, Broomhill; Back via le hopital and Weston. avec Dave. Legs felt a bit tired which is odd - they've done little recently!
