Yesterday Eddy had a 'leaving New Mills for Sheffield permanently' drink in the pub, so went down for a few drinks, but Eugene and I got bored, so went to drink cider then to Darren's for his birthday do - sitting around talking mainly, but was good.
Slept in 'til the afternoon, then spent the afternoon out and about as I have my fingers in so many pies! Legs felt a bit stiff after biking/running the last 2 days. Knee... hurts a bit, but is so much better than it could have been after 6 days running-rest. Mum has decided it may be a 'good injury'...
That said, alcohol last night didn't numb the pain at all... it hurt like hell on the way home!
Also, I've found I have a nasty habbit... when not around University people, but people I sort of know a bit but not too much, all I do is talk about University, which bores me, so I feel sorry for the poor bastards that have to listen!

Bike 46:00 [2] 8.66 mi (11.3 mph)
slept:7.5 shoes: Claude Butler Trail Ridge(Bike

Ride into Whaley along the Canal, and then back.
Why are there so many daft people who, when they see you on a bike, don't get out of the way, but stand there and look at you? And they're always fat, so if you do go around them you end up in the drink!..

Running - Road warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT

Pootle around the memorial gardens before the race, scouting out the begining and end of the race. Glad I did, as the route took us through a river that looked a lot shallower than it actually was, which caught many people out...

Running - Road race (Whaley Waltz fell race) 45:27 [5] 8.8 km (5:10 / km) +320m 4:22 / km
shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT

The first running of the Whaley Waltz fell race, which was organised to coincide with the carnival, so we had to wait for the traffic to clear before we could start, which meant muscles got a bit cold.
Good weather though, and a good route.
Nailed the start along the road, but, in hindsight, went out a bit too fast, but I wanted to see how I do if I start a race hard. The climb up to Windgather via Taxal was a bit tough - there was a lot of 'walking with purpose' going on, resulting in me being passed by a few people, but on the way down I stuck with those people along the twisty 'ridge,' and when we hit the track/road, they seemed to slow down for some reason...
Then there was the last river crossing, just before the finish. Many people thought it was shallow and so took a step - I knew it was pretty damn deep, so long-jumped it, and still got wet to the nipples! But because of that I managed to beat a guy out of the river and kick into the finish to finish 20th out of 100 odd...
Good race, and felt good. Knee twinges a bit now, but nothing compared to what it sometimes does!

Route/climb etc. here ...and check out the prize list! Pretty good! Although they were a bit stingy with the bottles of wine - they had a cart load left at the end of it! However, won a spot prize, so now have my first pair of running bear running socks. Win!

warm up/down 5:00 [1]

Note

Rivers on routes: a good reason for not carrying an ipod, or not wearing a white top (if you're a girl, at least... some did make that mistake haha)

Bike 2:38:00 [3] 19.62 mi (7.5 mph)
slept:9.0 weight:69.9kg shoes: Claude Butler Trail Ridge(Bike

Good day for it, if a bit windy at points, but the rain held off, which was good.
Along SVT to Hayfield, then up Highgate Road. Onto the bridleway behind Mount Famine and South head, then down and up again to the Rushup Edge road. The the Bridleway heading up Lord's Seat, before turning off down into Barber Booth in Edale. To Jacob's Ladder via Upper Booth. Push the bike up the Ladder, as the bike route is horribley loose stoned which I dislike when uphill. To Edale Cross, then down to Edale Road and back into Hayfield, then back to N.M. along the trail, finishing, as ever, strongly up Watford road :p

distance includes the 2382ft of climb involved. Distance travelled is taken fron my Speedo, climb from here!

Note

After my ride, rushed out to Mancester to meet Eugene to see a film. Spent abit of time spending money in Fopp whilst we waited for Daz, then went to see the latest McAvoy/Jolie film - Wanted.
DO NOT GO AND SEE THIS FILM - IT IS TERRIBLE
I love McAvoy, but if he makes any more films like this, the affair may well be over. sigh.

Managed to tweak my knee whilst turning in the kitchen last night... damn tiled floor!
Anyway, went down town to get new brake pads for the bike, so I can actually stop now! Despite the knee, decided if the weather was nice I'd go to Pennine regardless. It's tipping it down, so I haven't gone, which is probably a good idea.
Stayed in and watched the mennace, read LOTR, slobbed on the sofa, hoovered and ate.
Starting to get irritated...

Note
slept:8.0 weight:71.7kg (sick) (rest day)

Bastard hayfever has turned into a bit of a cold over the last few days. Feeling a bit better than I though I would today, but still feel a bit lathargic.
On the up side, knee feels good. May go for a trot tomorrow, see if it's a bit fixed. There's a fell race in Whaley on saturday that I'd quite like to do, up to windgather and back - like to see how many people I could nail on the way down the hill...

Note

feeling a bit better now - hopefully I'll have a good night's sleep!
Safin beating Djokovic - great match! Fell asleep infront of the Ivanovic match.

Climbing 30:00 [3]
slept:8.0

Headed out for a relaxed afternoon at Castle Naze with Iain, Mark and Lauren. Followed Iain up an HS and VS. Led a poxy little HVD, just to check that my placement is still good, what with not having climbed for nearly a year...
Spent about 4/5 hours en route to/at the crag, but we were taking it very slowly...

Note

Feel a bit poo, so watching TV and eating lots of crap. I like this time of year - there's always Wimbledon on the TV to make you fall asleep.

Bike 52:00 [3] 9.0 mi (10.4 mph)
slept:10.5 shoes: Claude Butler Trail Ridge(Bike

Was going to do a bigger bike ride, but slept in and felt in a bit of a slobby mood, so watched tennis. Decided to try out my new bike helmet, so went along the trail, up to Chad's Cabin, down to the reser, back into hayfield via Kinder Road then back home. Took it easy at times, bit harder at others. 9miles inc. the uphill, not too sure about the height gained, about 200m or so though...
Knee felt OK as wasn't putting any weight on it. Went for a walk later, knee felt good. I'll lay off it for a while, keep up my fitness on the bike hopefully.

Note

Just looked at Focus, saw the NopeSport urban league, and realised that I've ran in 3 of them, and with 5 to count, and 1 race left in Sheffield, hopefully I'll get to Leeds and complete the series!
I must say, I do like town races, what with being a simpleton when it comes to navigation :p
