Hike 4:00:00 [0] 18.22 km (13:10 / km) +905m 10:33 / km

Bus to Kirkstone then picking up a few old and new wainos to Fairfield to watch Rydal Round, before heading down to Ambleside Sports. Dux, Karl and Photo Steve marshalling at Fairfield so hung around with them before walking down. Good watching the guides and the last few track races (Rob Hope pulled a blinder in the handicapping for the mile; no-one knew who Fin Grant was for the guides) and a few pints of slightly homebrewy beer.

Hike 1:20:00 [1] 7.93 km (10:06 / km) +407m 8:02 / km

Brisk walk up to Lingy then Knott to watch the OCR after being Jebblet taxi. It was breezy and claggy on top and just about had enough gear to watch for a bit. Then a walk/jog back down, aware of slipping as I was in boots and not really after a broken ankle as well.

Detraining with Wil to Burneside. Not running is quite easy. Reducing food intake to level out against lack of expenditure is the current difficulty.

Cardiologist appointment. He was running late and I had time pressure, so only got 10 minutes, but it was worthwhile. He knows what the Dragon's Back is and asked 'do you have any targets' - so not a 'just don't run to be safe' type.

General heart state is due to it being trained. However there are a couple of things (that I don't understand) that aren't in line with a trained heart. As such we need to work out if this is due to the training, or something pathological.

To find this out I need to undergo a period of 6 months detraining, then re-test to see if my heart shows signs of reversion (so caused by training), or if it doesn't (pathological)
I knew this was coming but good to know. 6 months is a while but happy to invest it for (hopefully) n years of running in the future. It's also good to know that I'm not going to keel over and die and leave a family behind, something fairly close to home with DazH 10 years ago. If it is pathological and permanent reduced exertion is required then so be it - that beats karking it.

So the aim now is to keep busy and not waste 6 months watching Sopranos clips on youtube and putting on excess weight. Come January I want to be able to phase in training quite easily. I can still run 10ish miles a week at low intensity. I need to confirm exactly what I can do around biking/walking/strength work. I'm actually looking forward to stepping out of running for a bit for a refresh.

Ideas for things to work on/do (listing these for some accountability) so I can #BarberBackBetter (#BuildBackbarber?) are:

- Sort out knees/glutes and build my running strength.
- Sort out slight GI issues (nowhere near as bad as they were but still a bit unpredictable).
- Walking. Plenty of it to maintain some level of fitness. May be a good opportunity to work on an ML qualification.
- Try and dust of my trad climbing 'skills' from my teens, and improve my scrambling etc. Don't want to go into an indoor wall though really!
- Walk orienteering - technical training for a local JK23.
- Move house
- Race marshalling
- Resurrect Tebay fell race?
- Become next PM

Chapelfell Top race.
Great little race. To the summit and back, first 3rd of the acsent fast track, then into rough stuff with plenty of mystery lines to the summit. Then return.

I felt pretty tired and rubbish and finished nowhere but was loving it. If this is my last race for a while it was a good one to go out on

Bits of Kentmere with Pez, Reilly and Buzzer. Warm and I was regretting coming out up the first climb, bit a dip in Kentmere refreshed me (and Paul and Craig slowed down a bit). Had to push back along the road as Paul was clock watching.
The run back down the valley was much more undulating than the downwards trending profile makes it seem.

Note

Gentle bike out to Eagle and Child with Wil and Child.
Been feeling quite low this week. Not just work stress but that isn't helping. Sacking off Wasdale as so low energy, and just going to punter about for a bit. Last week's races may not have been the best idea, but expecting a period of detraining from the Cardiologist next week (which I'm actually quite looking forward to) so having my fun this week.

Saltwell fell race - 2nd
Fairly last minute decision, I only had jogging gear and knackered old trail shoes but they were alright - bit of rough stuff but mostly good running. Managed to convince Caroline and Christie to come out as well. Felt alright moving at this effort level but no oomph or flow to go quicker or latch onto the people that came past me (got away from one bloke who fell over a lot and another who rolled his ankles a lot). Lovely evening though and felt better and enjoyed more than Saturday.

Durisdeer.

It was nice to be out for the team but I got a bit frustrated at my inability to deal with the slightly chossy terrain that I'd normally lap up. Felt shattered as I got out of the car and very uncoordinated in the race. It was quite a mince. My body's got nothing at the moment, busy week not helping but covid and heart at back of mind. Shallow field so edged the top 50 despite being overtaken by many old men and no marks - but aren't we all on the the gradual slide on the old man and no marks spectrum?

Good day out though and bonus dinner and pub in the evening where I learnt about a relocating arsehole.
