Orienteering 56:00 [2] **** 7.2 km (7:47 / km) +170m 6:57 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT

First time in woods for a while, and I seemed a bit better than I remembered. TomB was a great help with pointing out where I need to simplify a bit more. Really needed someone to have a brief look at my technnique so now it's done! Just need to make sure I can do it without someone behind me!
Running in terrain was a lot easier after the last month than it was beforehand as well :D
Looking forward to tomorrow.

Exam meh. Bit meh in general. May do something... may not. You never know!

Running - Road (Road) 43:00 [2] 8.25 km (5:13 / km) +136m 4:49 / km
shoes: New Balance N1024

breaking the shoes in a bit - gonna use the old ones mainly until they die - just got these as Decathlon was having sale/loan was in/rent wasn't out.

Out to the Broomhill end of Fulwood road (7) Then after a break, up Crimicar, along to Crosspoll and usual loop home via Lydgate, Mulehouse, Crookes and Heavygate.

Running Intervals intervals (Fulwood Road Fartlek) 13:20 [4] 3.15 km (4:14 / km) +68m 3:49 / km
shoes: New Balance N1024

Fartlek along Fulwood Road from the lights in Broomhill to the botto of Crimicar Lane. 80secs on/40secs jog. School chucking out time, but managed to time road crossings/groups of kids quite well with the 40 secs off. Just the one on bit had to be cut a bit short. Bit tough up the hill from fulwood, but was running within myself I felt.

Note

ooo better enter JK soon
M21L... cleanish Nav and I should beat Faz!

slept:9.0 (rest day)

been like an ADHD kid on cola today, not good for trying to cram the finer points of Microbes into the skull ahead of tomorrow. AT elast it sees the end of the real exams and only monday's practical to go before the beer-monster gets unleashed again.
Entered the NOC event on Sunday, looking forward to a bit of O!

Running - Road long (Terrain (Kinder)) 2:18:30 [3] 20.0 km (6:56 / km) +400m 6:18 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'

Long run (longer than expected) with abrams Magic Ash and Zanthe. Good fun but was knakced and it was all I could do to jog the end bit. Kept going at steady pace whilst the others (-ash) went ahead.
From Hagg Farm up to Crookstone knoll=> top of Golden clough, then along the southern edge via Grindslow clough to Crowden Tower/Woolpacks knda area. Then across the bog (via the 2 trees where I got stuck upto mid-thigh last time I was on the plateau) to Seal Edge(ish) (maybe fairbrook naze, can't quite match it up on the map...). Along the North Edge back to Crookstone knoll and down.
Bit harder than it should have been but I'm still feeling tiredness from something. It's getting less though.

Running - Road warm up/down 17:00 [2] 2.9 km (5:52 / km) +42m 5:28 / km
shoes: Asics somethings

round to Upperthorpe, then warm down to the lights in Walkley with Magic then back on me tod until Senor Hartman appeared so I walked with him.

Running Intervals hills (Upperthorpe Road) 17:00 [4] 3.33 km (5:06 / km) +205m 3:54 / km
shoes: Asics somethings

5x reps on Upperthorpe, starting from junction with Ashbury Road. Starts off at a decent gradient before flattening out whilst still remaining at a gradient, so good traiing. Started off at a pace and tried to keep it going which worked OK, then not much rest on the way down.
Each rep about 370m with +41 elevation(?) - took between 1.40-1.55ish?
didn't push too hard but still felt a bit tired, but felt fine once session and warm down was done.

so tmepted to stay in bed but had to drag self out for exam, wasn't too bad. Stroll down to decathlon has loosened off the legs a bit but I think jumps may be given a miss at circuits...
New roadies as well as the loan is fairly fresh in the bank.

Warm up/down 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)
slept:2.0 shoes: New Balance N1024

Running - Road race (Tigger Tor F.R.) 1:20:18 [4] 14.12 km (5:41 / km) +470m 4:53 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'

Brilliant race around Burbage and the like. Felt OK, but not strong, so am chuffed to have done 1hr20 (just 13 mins off the pace) as that was my 'optimistic' target time. From Toad's Mouth to hitting the big track before Houndskirk I slowed a lot and was passed by a fair few people, but was slightly expecting that. (Meant that on the way to Houndskirk lump I could see the gap where I would've been if I'd kept going, but wasn't too fussed as wasn't running full out.) Once again decending was my forte (esp. through the heather where Alan Brentnall was impressed as I passed him - it's not like he's nearly 60...) and took 4 people on the bend into the rugby club on a sprint finish. I like all this 10miles, but it's all raced over the last 300m :p
Very pleased to do so well after quite a hefty (by my standards) week of training/exams. Just need to work on not dogging on the hills!

~56/350odd. I'm moving up these lists - in double figures only now!

Warm up/down warm up/down 15:00 [1]
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'

Little warm up as not much time. Mainly between car and rugby club.

Running - Road (Road) 39:10 [3] 8.25 km (4:45 / km) +20m 4:41 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Asics somethings

Dragged along at a good pace by Dave. Down to the tram tracks, around the irng road, along eccy road to/through Endcliffe park for SYO majjiger.
Felt tired.

Orienteering (Park/Map Memory) 11:28 [3] ** 2.2 km (5:13 / km) +20m 4:59 / km
spiked:8/8c shoes: Asics somethings

Bit muddy for the roadies, but was fun slidig around none the less (esp. across the field...)
1st Oing for a while - it's right near the bottom on my drop-downlist of training types! (along with skiing ha!)
Got a bit tired at times slipping in soggy ground but good fun.

Orienteering (Park/LG) 12:45 [3] ** 2.2 km (5:48 / km) +30m 5:26 / km
spiked:11/11c shoes: Asics somethings

Light Green course. BIt more tired now, and the route was a bit more slippery tha previous. Good fun, but I know the park so well. 5-finish was just ehad down sauntering.

Running - Road warm up/down (Road) 15:22 [2] 3.04 km (5:03 / km) +50m 4:40 / km
shoes: Asics somethings

home from Endcliffe via Clarkhouse road/weston park.

went out in my warm top which got very warm (der) so had to tie it around my waist. That and 3/4 length troosers made me look like the biggest pleb ever. All I needed were the significant love-handles.

Microbial Genetics exam went much better than expected - I only had to blag for 1 question! Bit tired but will head out later, once I've shifted the big bacon and sausage bap I had for elevensees...

Nice run with Dave and luce for a bit. Taken distance off Danger. Nice pace along top and bottom of Rivelin, including some fording of rivers... legs and body a bit tired up to Walkley but felt good ahead of Sunday. paddle

Macromolecular structure and Function 1 exam. Could have beena lot worse and my B-game found it quite easy. Gimme of an essay question on the contents of the 1st real lecture (RNAase), don't see who would have plumped for enzyme kinetics over that one!
Back feeling a bit stiff - intervals added to the circut aches. That and only 6 hours sleep as well..

Running - Road (Road) 50:00 [3] 10.8 km (4:38 / km) +178m 4:17 / km
shoes: Asics somethings

Down to and along Eccy road, thru endcliffe park, up to Fulwood, up to Carsick/Lodge More via Tom Road, back via Lydgate and Heavygate. root
Lower legs felt heavy and front of shins felt tight again, as did calves a bit, so stopped twice to stretch these. May have to keep running down what with the race (esp. with terrain) at the weekend

Other Sport (Foot-tennis) 35:00 [0]
shoes: Asics somethings

Lost twice to Dave (at 2- and 1- bounce.
Beat Rhys, then lost :( (both 2bounce)
The played 2 doubles (with Ash and Dave) and lost as was getting dark...
Was like a ShUOC motorway with G, Charli and 'Hawkeye' Rocke who enjoyed the short shorts ;)

Note

Just lost a toe-nail. That's never happened before!

Running Intervals intervals ('relays') 5:05 [5] 1.5 km (3:23 / km) +57m 2:51 / km
shoes: Asics somethings

3x500m loops in Ponderosa with ~19m climb, done in a relay, so about 1.50 rest between each.
1.46, 1.44, 1.35 (as was trying to outsprint Schorah who had 20m on me...)

Note

you know it's revision time when your tracks listened to for the week is over 600 and your top artist is... Vivaldi? hmm. god bless lastfm

Woke at 7.30 - the earliest I've woken in quite a while, and it was dark - something I'm not used to in the morning. However, Exam went fine. Finished a bit early. Only a 45min one (essay already done) and 5/6 questions I found a lot to write about, and I knew it as well!
In Decathlon by 10.15 buying 14-yo pants. They have many shoes going cheep, so will go get me a new pair of road birds for when the current ones squark

Warm up/down warm up/down 30:00 [2]

45-15s. Put a fair bit o'effort in but felt comfortable. Still can't tell whether my back is straight/arched/dipped when press-ups/plank involved mind.
Not bad for first one back.

S&C (Chair-off) 1:00 [5]

Chair-off with Dave. Both our legses were knacked. Called time at 1min.

Sunday Jan 18, 2009 #

Note
slept:9.0 (rest day)

real rest day today, let the legs catch their breath. Bit of revisio but not too much cramming incase stuff gets lost (apart for microbial genetics which will need much cunning to pass...)

Note

ARGH i have the attention span of a bored ADHD goldfish. So far have been for a walk, watched snooker, bought pens, lunched, washed up, cleaned the hob, and may do clothing folding in a bit... Then the return of Ski Sunday!

Other Sport (Football/Foot-tennis) 40:00 [1]
shoes: Asics somethings

Needed to let off a bit of steam as the revision still wasn't going well, some hoofing in weston park with dave then kicking the ball into the tennis nets then 2 games of foot tennis which will be repeated many a time over the exam period I feel...

Rest day. Almost deffinatly. Almost...
May see if I can stream the Skiing from Wengen while I work...

Running - Road (Road) 22:30 [2] 4.4 km (5:07 / km) +133m 4:27 / km
shoes: Asics somethings

Keeping the legs n lungs ticking over.
Springvale, down Heroes, up Walkley Bank Road and back through Walkley.
Watching the skiing earlier made me wonder what the fastest time for a descent of Heroes is. May have to be tried. After the Alco?

Friday Jan 16, 2009 #

Running - Road (Road/Trail) 1:06:00 [2] 11.57 km (5:42 / km) +219m 5:13 / km
slept:9.0 shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'

Was going to have a rest day but needed to get out of the house and blow a few cobwebs out of the system before next wek's exams. Stables, Allotments, then along top of Rivelin, down Blackbrook and coppice then back along bottom of Rivelin until I found a footbridge and decided to go exloring through some fields up to long lane, and eventually back to the allotments/stables and home. Prob. a bit longer than I should have done.
Slow pace as legs knacked from yesterday. However, next time I O in terrain I must go at this pace to try and keep map contact.
Nice day too be out. Bit too warm in thermal. traipse

Running - Road (Road) 20:00 [2] 3.82 km (5:14 / km) +52m 4:54 / km
slept:10.0 shoes: Asics somethings

Again problems getting up, and not a great day of revision...
Odd route down to Bingham Park with Gaz, J and gilhooleyhooley-wotcha! for reps.

Running Intervals hills (murder) 22:45 [5] 3.6 km (6:19 / km) +192m 4:59 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'

6x 200m with +20m, v.activer rep then sprint 100m with +12
Hill reps in Bingham. Felt OK on the first one, but after that felt crap. Everyone else did 8, but I called it a day after 6. Head told me to stop after 2, but carried on to 6.
Should have left it to an easy session today, will do little tomorrow.

Running - Road warm up/down (Road) 21:00 [2] 3.25 km (6:28 / km) +72m 5:49 / km
shoes: Asics somethings

Painful jog home, the normal way this time...

Wednesday Jan 14, 2009 #

Running - Road tempo (Road) 34:00 [4] 7.67 km (4:26 / km) +130m 4:05 / km
slept:9.0 shoes: Asics somethings

Aimed to go at something just a bit quicker than comfy pace, and went a bit quicker still whilst feeling pretty strong. To Broomhill then out to Ranmoor, up Gladstone road to Lodge Moor, and back via Lydgate lane, Cross lane than looped home via heavygate (where the streetlights were out so I had to hit the breaks)
Bit chilly in uberporno shirts and t-shirt, hence the reason I started quicker than intended and kept it going.
Worked off the fried bread I had with Lunch... it's my Kryptonite! (only I have no powers to loose)

Not a bad day of revision either.

Running - Road (road) 48:45 [3] 10.5 km (4:39 / km) +151m 4:20 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Asics somethings

Comfy run with coursemate steve and some of his chums. Comfortable pace for me meant Ste was pushing it a bit, but happy with the pace - a good loosener. East=>West along Eccy road, between the parks, up to Fox House/LodgeMoor, back via broomhill.

S&C 14:00 [3]
shoes: Asics somethings

In front of Marcus's TV show on ITV4 - "Magic's biggest secrets: Revealed"

Warm up/down warm up/down 5:00 [0]

because I like the colour.

Running - Road (sloppy) 39:00 [2] 7.42 km (5:15 / km) +192m 4:39 / km
slept:9.0 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT

Rivellin ~7.5km route, slippy like a baby's arse (or is that the wrong similie?)
Felt crappy, especially coming up Heroes, which took me nigh on 10mins and reduced me to much walking :( Think I should ditch these trainers and use inovates/radies only, as trail shoes irritate me and cba spending a lot of money on a decent pair. Then again, I'm loath to use me inovates on road...

Oh well, loverly Biochem revision to cheer me up.
*sigh*

S&C 10:00 [2]

infront of the snooker. God Bless aunty for televising 2 weeks of Darts and 'nooker in the run up to Shef. Uni's exam period.

Sunday Jan 11, 2009 #

Note
slept:10.0 (rest day)

Decided to have what is meant to be my last proper long lie-in until exams are over, so missed Tankersley which is a shame, but I'm not overly fussed.

Saturday Jan 10, 2009 #

Running - Road (Terrain (frosty)) 1:22:00 [2] 11.5 km (7:08 / km) +220m 6:30 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'

'recce' of some bit of the Tigger Tor route avec moobs and Gaz. From Lady Cannings => Ox Stones, Edge, plantation, Higger, Owler, toads mouth (missed out Carl Wark as we all know where it is), Stone trough (stumbled across this!) then cut across to the big track and back to the car. Very bleak from Ox Stones to the edge, and the heather was very frozen. (only gaz was wearing shorts) From Owler Tor there was a melted track in the heather where someone else had evidently been recceing the route as well. Went further than measured as was claggy so couldn't really see where we were going. Line to the edge was pretty good though. (Rhys's doing)
Hairdressers in their 4x4s cocking about on the track, and a large group of europeans admiring Gaz's legs at the river. "oiski poiski... shortsa!" and a map

Note

left knee was hurting a bit for a little bit during yesterdays run, and whilst it didn't hurt running today, all the jumpin over heather has meant it hurts a bit now. Keep my eye on it for a while. Short 'n easy tomorrow so can fit lots of revision in.
Or sit around and watch lots of snooker and darts...

Friday Jan 9, 2009 #

Note

break for a run resulted in 2 hours of watching darts, so now I feel crap. May tootle around roads later, unless I drown in a sea of gay microbial genetics.

Running - Road tempo (Road) 34:00 [4] 8.0 km (4:15 / km) +134m 3:55 / km
slept:9.0 shoes: Asics somethings

all-road 'tempo' run to bash out some Microbial Genetics aggression, as well as starting to work out a race-pace for the shorter fell races in the summer. Down to Endcliffe Park and along the bottom, then up riverdale to ranmoor. Across to, then up Lydgate for a bit before moseying home.
First 4km took just under 16mins, but it was all downhill (slowed a bit along bottom of the park as stich meant runing quicker than was breathing, but it never reared its head again.) 2 stops on the way back up the hill for traffic as my 'dash for a gap' mentality had escaped me.
felt good. Think this is the quickest pace I've ever logged on AP. wan-hundered-und-ayt-ee!!

warm up/down 5:00 [1]

if it's good enough for dickinson, it's good enough for me

Note

Now here's a 'sportsman' for you:
Interview with Ted Hankey after he won his dart's match
Bobby George: "you looked so much more smoother today. you cut down on beer today didn't you?"
The Count: "yeah, I only had 3 pints beforehand today. Earlier in the week it was 5 before a match"
Bobby George: "and compared to last year?"
The Count: "Yeah, last year it was 11,12,13 pints before a match"

I had to laugh.
Orienteering after 13pints? worth a try...

Woke up at sensible time, and ~3 hours straight work on assignment = DONE! Still revision, and lots of it,to get through mind. Gah! Dunno really what to do today training wise, may do summat later, but need to sort out shopping/books/banks as well. May get a sub 'o the day when in town though... At least Hustle is back tonight. Yes!

note - didn't get anything I needed, but did leave Zavvi with Die Hard box set to educate Dave with after exams (and annoy Zanthe I dare say..)

S&C 21:00 [3]
(rest day)

few circuit wotsits on the hard mat in the front room in front of the darts after I'd had a hoover. Held holdy things for 1min each, when exercise was quantitative did 30 in a row (apart from press-ups which were done in 20-10 as I'm pathetic)

Once again, inability to wake up until midday. Grr! Although staying up late did meen seeing the best nerd-sulk and worst attempt at an obstical course ever on the Krypton Factor, so swings and roundabouts.
Comfy run from Fox House round burbage with Rhys and Fluce. Not so cold today, snow a bit soft, bog also. Carl Wark (few hundred metres of effort here, then waited for others), Higger Tor, round to Bridge, back along the edge. Only 1 other person out there (apart from Liz, Rach and Loz) and 1 rasta snowman. here you go Rhys...

Running Intervals hills (frozen grass (terrain?!)) 16:15 [5] 3.0 km (5:25 / km) +208m 4:01 / km
shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT

8xreps up the grass slope with recovery down in between (apart from after last rep). after reps 5-7 took a few seconds at the top of the hill to 'catch my breath' (and boy was there a lot of breath)

Running - Road (Road/terrain) 53:00 [3] 9.35 km (5:40 / km) +172m 5:11 / km
shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT

Had planned the session to includea long route home, so I had to do it really.
From the top of the hill rep hill down to the path through the woods in Bingham, then whitley woods to Brookhouse Hill (just before the Cafe) up here, and then up Crimicar Lane to the Golf Course. Across here then back along top of Rivelin (skittery), A57, Allotments, Stables, Crookes, School Road to home.
Bonking all over the place after hills. Many rests and some walks, but so tough to keep going, even at this slow pace.
If I'd known it was going to be this solid I'd've worn me roadies as they're much more comfortable/light than these heavy buggers!

Once again it took me 100mins to get out of bed.
Anyway, run from Redmires with Marcus at a comfy pace in the snow, which was nice. A few bits of virgin powder the skiier in me had to deflower.
Long Causeway (Stanedge Pole), Along the edge to High Neb Trig, path to Rape Piece (good name), down to and along conduit before cutting over the hill back to redmires.
Made a change to scare more sheep than grouse on a run as well. snow joke!

Big problems waking up early. Alrm went off at 9.45, Snoozed 'til 11.15, then stayed in bed a bit longer. It'd be OK if I didn't have to fit so much info in my head over the next 2 weeks. (and that's just the start of exams!)

Running - Road (Road/Trail) 57:30 [3] 12.25 km (4:42 / km) +195m 4:21 / km

Crookes, Stables, Allotments, along top of Rivelin next to Golf Course (*spits*), then down Black Brook to the Coppice. To the footbridge at the end of Rivelin (people having shortest ever game of Pooh-sticks...) then back along Rivelin to the bottom of Heroes. Wasn't going to do this, so headed back along Walkley Bank Road up to Walkley (der) then back home. Kept a good tempo throughout. Had a few rests (3 short ones) and felt quite strong at the end.
not like city need the FA cup anyway... :s

slept:9.0 shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'

Despite a goodly amount of sleep, just couldn't get my arse out of bed.
Anyway, track/terrain run with moobs, Gaz and Bridge from Cutthroat bridge.
Up the Bridleway to the 'col' then down a bit, before bashing a way up to White Tor, then along Derwent Edge to Back Tor before heading bak straight-line(ish) across the heather before a final muddy reedy bit which I lead the rest through. Apart from that last bit, the ground was solid throughout! Bit too solid at times.
Felt comfortable when Rhys upped the pace a little, but seg on right heel irritated on way back.

Note

internet is down.
revision is dull
Feeling a bit feak and weeble, but will get some exercise done today. (missed running yesterday as decided to stay in PJs and dressing-gown instead of hit the peaks. Wednesday night was ace, but i remember very little...)

Running - Road (Road/Trail) 34:20 [3] 7.44 km (4:37 / km) +200m 4:04 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Asics somethings

Up to the cem, stables, allotments, mike's path, down into Rivelinn, along, back up heroes (7min and a few secs) home down springvale. Many daft dogs/daft owners about.
Took me 30min and abit to get to the top of Heroes. Last time I did this route, took me 30mins to get to the bottom. Nothing to do with a 20sec heroes rep today I can assure you! quick moments rest before dropping into rivellin, and some haggared breaths at top of Heroes.
Felt good.

Warm up/down warm up/down 8:00 [1] 1.38 km (5:48 / km) +30m 5:14 / km
shoes: Asics somethings

Home from run, bit of time at home, then run down to crookes valley, once around the pond, back home after 'intervals'

Running Intervals intervals 10:40 [4] 2.7 km (3:57 / km)

around the pond in Crookes Valley Park. 2 sides quick, 1 side recovery, and so on. Went around the water 5 times, not too sure of amaounts of side with effort etc. Anyway.
The Herron was most pissed off with me as it had to move each time I ran past it.

Note

Role on 2009. Here's to increased training, increased fitness, pushing myself in Fell Races and some pleasing results, and hopefully a severe lack of errors when I have a map in my hands!
oh, and working hard as well...
