Quite sore from cross country skiing yesterday. It's amazing how irrelevant your fitness level becomes when you switch activities.

Tried a snowshoe hike/jog on the golf course - by staying on north and eastward facing slopes it was just barely possible. Every year I try it a few times, but I have yet to have a satisfactory running experience on snowshoes. The noise level alone vs. skiing is so dramatic.

First day of cross country skiing at Pineridge. Conditions were marginal - the base was reported as 0-2 inches. I think 0 was overly pessimistic, but there were visible rocks in the trail here and there. The owner said historically he would not have opened under such conditions, but the long-term warming trend necessitates it.

I had a good time, took about an hour to get to the comfort level I remembered from last year. Only saw one family and one individual skier the entire time.
