Run Forrest. This felt horrendous! I knew very early that my lungs were just no good at all. I really struggled to breathe and I was concentrating mainly on just keeping my HR in a reasonable range because it was also a bit insane. After probably the first 6k I just had to sort of ease off and get into a bit of a space where I wouldn't blow up completely.

In any case, beautiful course. Didn't love the bit where we ran back on ourselves because it was pretty busy and there wasn't much warning, but it was mainly single track and although today wasn't my day physically the undulations were great and kept it really interesting.

In the end, managed to snag 3rd, and got a good prize haul. Would like to have another go when well, will have to work out what is causing the issue.

Kyhil kindly did some work on my mountain bike today. He said that 1) my brakes were rubbing 2) my bottom bracket was seized and 3) my derailleur was bent! So no wonder I got so tired at the end of the race!

Jog from the aths track with Gabi. Feeling better this evening, breathing not such a struggle, though felt a bit hard for what was a reasonably chill pace.

Body absolutely fine, though the jolting of each step was unpleasant on the bruises, at least at the start. Having some respiratory struggles like last week / Saturday which is annoying.

Probably just sulking at this point, but definitely still feeling very sore and pretty tired (the sore points are not making sleep easy). At this point my neck is really the worst (still effects from whiplash), the other stuff is just settling into some lovely colours and isn't affecting mobility.

In quite a lot of pain today. Neck from both fatigue and whiplash, hip, knee, elbow and cheek / temple from bruising, and most worrying my hand / wrist which is painful to grip / lift things. Went to the Urgent Care Centre and had an x-ray; apparently it's not broken which is good at least. Happy that lower body stuff all seems to be superficial, no sprains / tears.

Shifty Fifty - Roll'd Gold (Castlemaine). Thoroughly not my day. At almost exactly 20k I got a flat which I had all sorts of trouble fixing and it eventually took me something like 35min to fix - so that was pretty much my race done. But I still then went off like a hare after that to try and catch up some time, and I clipped a tree and crashed pretty heavily. Landed on my face / head, really hurt my knee, elbow and wrist. I was near the end of the first lap at this point and definitely should have pulled out, but I'm pigheaded. Went OK for probably the next 15k but between 35 & 40k I hit a big wall and from there on it was really awful and I just wanted it to end. Couldn't do any of the obstacles I'd got easily on lap 1.

The trails were really tough, steep and relentlessly rocky. Found the tight downhill turns a challenge with no banking / berms. A few fun bits on the Enduro downhill segments, but I don't think I'll hurry back.
