ahr:171 max:177 shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 190

Rushed, non-existant warm up after long queues for both bib pickup and toilet, decided to change shoes and bolted down to the start line with a couple of minutes to spare.

Running (Mixed) race 1:10:14 [5] 15.75 km (4:28 / km) +370m 3:59 / km

Great NOSH race.

Managed to get myself to a good starting position for the 1.5km sprint to the single trail, and decided to sit behind Glenn to find a good pace and that proved very useful as we ploughed through to the bridge together picking off a couple of folk.

I climbed hard up to the bridge and pushed on passing another guy and having half a gel, didn't sit very well and nor did the water, but climbed up from the drinks point and passed another couple quickly along the top. Again the magazine track proved tough and from the stream crossing onwards I started struggling.

I wasn't making much inroads on the guy ahead who I occasionally glimpsed, but had got reasonably close on some of the climbs up towards the firetrail to get up to his shoulder soon enough. I was stronger on the hills but couldn't really make it count and we had a decent back and forth battle until we hit the final singletrack and I couldn't get ahead. Knew by this stage we were in 4th & 5th and hadn't seen anyone behind so just plugged away to the finish seeing my watch get closer to 70mins but had nothing left in the legs to sneak under.

Another tough old battle with this course, even with much better conditions, surely the best trail race in Sydney.

Running (Mixed) warm up/down 4:10 [3] 0.55 km (7:35 / km)
ahr:119 max:130 shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 190

Cursory lap of the oval with Mark & Paula, right foot a bit sore around the heel - probably just the lack of cushioning from the x-talons, but glad I wore them over the terraflys.
