I didn't want to run here, having read the event info which recommended full body cover, including arms, warned the lantana had grown thickly, paths were overgrown and that you should presume all veg on the map is thicker than mapped. But we were well short of folk, so thought I'd better get involved, not that I really helped with an awful run.

To be honest, the veg wasn't actually that bad for most of it, but I didn't really have a great mindset from the off about it and my body was struggling with the fast easy early controls. Scrappy at 3, missed at 5 and then a big miss at 6, must have just missed sight of the control on my first attempt, then spent ages hunting around further down the hill.

Got caught in crap veg at 8, and was just struggling physically particularly once we got back to the fast easy stuff at the end. Finished a long way off the pace.

Ride back from Cattai, Box Hill was less of a challenge than in Surrey, but lots of undulations kept me working. Stopped for a pie & coke refuel after an hour which sorted me out, and I even added in some bonus hills around Baulkham Hills after losing the cycle path when it crossed the motorway at some stage. Renown Road was particularly brutal by that stage in the ride.

Great sunny day for it. Wish I'd had some Kraftwerk for it, but had to make do with Underworld, Beaucoup Fish is particularly good for grinding out the miles.

Oaks trail in the Blue Mountains, pretty leisurely pace, but past halfway we picked it up a little down the fast firetrail and swooping singletrack, great fun. I smashed my derailleur towards the end which took a while to sort and headset is super creaky too, time for a service.

Big climb up from the ford was a nice(!) sting in the tail.
