DVOA Back to the Woods - Camp Rodney Long - Green Y (F40+)
So unfortunately the weekend ends for me with a DNF. First off my body was already feeling pretty beat. When I got to 1 and it was just down in this huge reentrant I wanted to be sure it was the right one before going down there. I ended up checking the other side to be sure, and I could not see the bag from either side but I went down and it was there. Climbing back out was a little rough.
I took the trail to the white woods above 2 and then went down to the stream. The climb up the other side was again pretty crazy. After getting the control then I wanted to go back to the trail so I had to go back down and up yet again.
Took the trail back to 3, down into another reentrant yet again but not difficult.
Now the long leg to 4. I took the trail and road the whole way around and attacked from the sign north of it.
Back out to the road, across the bridge, then tried to attack 5. This is the one that got me. Looking at my track, apparently I was almost there on my first attack. Then I spent a bunch of time wandering around in the streams and green too far to the west. I know I kept finding the same places over and over again and getting stuck in nasty areas where I didn't want to press forward anymore. I decided this was no longer fun and gave up on the control.
Since I wasn't going to finish, I then just did the remaining controls that looked like fun (8 through the end, skipping 6 and 7). I missed 10, then hit the trail and went the wrong way briefly, but bounced back and got it. The rest went okay. But also my time was pretty long... I may well have gone overtime anyway if I had continued the search for 5 and done 6 and 7.
Still a beautiful day and I had a good time seeing everybody and helping out.
