shoes: Brooks Ghost 11

Tried to go to the flat and shady rail trail, but the highway entrance was blocked by an accident. Then after looping around the back way, I realized there was an event at the big sports center that makes it a pain to get into the trail parking area. Rolled on over to Dorwart Park as most of the trails are shaded.

This was reasonable. My right foot didn't get tingly at all. On the dirt section of path down by the creek, I tried jogging a few steps three times and that was ok. I was mostly interested in whether the mechanics would work... last week the calf was such a mess that I couldn't stand on my toes or push off into a running stride. So that was an improvement as well. Will probably attempt walking around a white at Crow's Nest tomorrow (white is the only course available). I would rather be having a bike adventure but I'll save that for after talking to the PT doc.

Yesterday's walk didn't seem detrimental so I went out again.

X-rayed (4 views) after work. Need to call physical therapy offices to see who can work with my schedule (and see about costs since I have a deductible) but with the holiday that will have to wait until Friday or possibly Monday.

Sitting around is getting depressing. I had to get out a bit. This was slow but mostly not painful. I definitely have a little hitch on the right leg at the moment. The outside of my right foot got tingly, as it has been. I had actually noticed this many times when walking in the past year or two, but attributed it to shoes/high arches. I guess it was actually a warning sign.

Other good news, some feeling seems to be returning to the numb area on the back of my right thigh.

Note

Doctor appointment. Verdict - it's coming from the sacrum (S1). X-ray and physical therapy.

Definitely in slipped disc/pinched nerve territory. The right leg numbness is improving with rest and pain has been minimal, so I'm giving it another week. I went to the park very briefly and walked around slowly because it was so beautiful out and it's very hard to sit around watching TV :-( If it isn't continuing to improve after the holiday, then I'll see the doctor. Apparently in most cases, rest is the answer anyway.

Also exposed my intense fear of chairlifts to the world. (And basically anything that happens at heights outside without some sort of enclosure.) Discovered this in 2012 when I rode one at an amusement park with a friend and spent the entire time up and back down the mountain having a panic attack. I was kind of hoping that I could just always avoid them since I don't ski....
