orienteering race 2:37:23 [4] *** 10.49 km (15:00 / km)
18c shoes: Inov8 O-roc 280 Red Redux

DVOA Schock's Rocks Score-O at Governor Dick

Distance from Garmin

My main plan was to stay in the nicer woods, out of the super green and rocky areas. I hiked the entire time and only ran a teeny bit out of the start.

Control order:
31-37-32-41-51-49-56-44-52-61-33-72-42-62-82-85-43-64

I stopped at both bathroom/water stops, oddly enough at almost exactly the 1 hour (between controls 61 & 33) and 2 hour (between controls 82 & 85) marks.

Having more than 20 minutes left, I probably could have gotten at least one more at the end (53) but decided it wasn't worth risking the penalty. I was also pretty tired and ready to be done.

I was amazed to end up 2nd female and 10th overall, considering I didn't feel like I was pushing very hard. Strategy seemed to be a big part of the results.

I was cold in my short sleeves when I arrived at the park, and stupidly had not brought a longer sleeve o top. I debated a bit and then decided to add a regular light hoodie that I had along, and that was probably the right choice. At times (especially climbing) I was warm, but when the wind picked up I was glad to have another layer.

Kutztown Fool's Run 5K

I felt better than last year, even though I was slightly slower. But it was also 30-40 degrees warmer! Intentionally went out more slowly so I wouldn't die on the big hill right out of the start this time. But I felt like I had to take too many walk breaks later. Didn't wear headphones/music which is in the race rules (even though I did last year since many others were) and was surprised that I didn't miss it too much.

After the race there was food, and I talked to some other lady who was there alone and is a Girls on the Run coach. Then I went to the brand new, only open for a week Kutztown Planet Fitness to shower. It was so much nicer than the one I mainly go to, which is old and renovated from being another fitness facility and is a bit of a dump. (But it's 5 minutes from work which means I actually go.) Then I met my friend Amanda at The Works in Wyomissing to do 2 go kart races and play in the arcade a bit (a belated birthday celebration postponed by snow from the beginning of the month).

Legs still feeling tired, but I wanted to run once this week and this was the only appropriate day. (I try not to run the day before riding or the day before a race or orienteering. Except when a race and orienteering fall on the same weekend...)

Also registered for West Point, Rock n Glow 5K and the D&L Half Marathon. As of right now that means I'm completely signed up for everything I am planning on doing that has registration available.
