Note

Resting and doing stretches... ugh.

From Routegadget, apparently I was the only person with the understanding that we aren't to cross the train tracks at Norristown except at official crossing points? I know that was a rule in the past. Now I'm mad about the ~15 minutes and ~4 places I apparently wasted :-(

But apparently my own route from last time shows me crossing somewhere else. I'm losing my mind!

DVOA Norristown Farm Park - Green

Should not be this slow in this terrain, even with the longer than usual distance. My leg itself felt fine, but my left hip/pelvis and lower back was tight and painful starting on the way to the second control. Going up and down steep areas was hard, plus bending over. It never really loosened itself up until about control 12 or so.

I lost a stupid amount of time between 11 and 12, trying to build a better mousetrap when it came to crossing that annoying railroad. I knew most of the bridges were bad (but haven't been here for a year so maybe they fixed some?) and the grade crossing due south of 6/north of 10 was okay. But I didn't really want to backtrack that far if I didn't have to. First I could not read what the markings on the two closer bridges were - they don't look like X but they don't look like crossing symbols either. Turns out they are in fact X in a box but I can't see that unless I stand still and hold my map right up to my face. I went to the first one and it was blocked off. Then I saw what looks like a tunnel or culvert further south near a ruin. (There is another passable tunnel which I have used just east of the grade crossing.) So I went down there but there was no tunnel to be seen. Then it looks like you can cross under the railroad even more south where Stony Creek goes through - but you can't, at least not with the water as deep as it currently is. It was right up to the stone bridge pillar and you'd have to swim. So after all of that I had to admit defeat and go all the way back up to the grade crossing which seriously cost like 15 minutes.

Aside from that I didn't really have any problems other than the hip and getting snagged in thorns repeatedly. Just really slow.
