orienteering race 1:43:43 [3] *** 6.1 km (17:00 / km)
16c slept:7.0 shoes: VJ LOPs

Greenbelt, Green course. Feeling pretty decent, a few mistakes, not bad for a first real outing of the season. Weather was beautiful! Probably negated any calorie-burning though, at the Super Bowl party tonight.

horseback riding (english) 36:00 [1]

Riding Blackjack, just walking around today, too muddy & slippy for any faster gaits.

hiking 28:00 [2] 1.6 mi (17:30 / mi)

Back and forth to the barn and pasture

slept:7.0 weight:173lbs shoes: Asics Trabuco

Same as Wednesday.

At work today we had people from a local spa come by and do free chair massages :-) It was totally excellent. My back and shoulders are not tight for once.

gym - treadmill 36:54 [3] 2.5 mi (14:46 / mi)
slept:7.0 shoes: Asics Trabuco

Alternating walking and running every half mile. When I was done and got off the treadmill it felt like the whole world was moving...

Signed up for the gym. Now I just have to drag my butt out there a couple times a week. At least it is pretty much right around the corner from work. Packed up a gym bag. Trying on my running clothes was scary. My scale is not always super accurate (or else there are major gravitational fluctuations localized to the area of my bathroom). But I didn't need it to tell me that my weight is approximately... a lot more than it was when I bought those clothes. Doh.

I was busy working on my new web server today, so didn't get out to do much of anything. Instead I'd like to write a bit about goals here, mostly because I need to have some kind of accountability.

I would like to step up to Red and actually run my class. Maybe it will not happen this year, but I would like to get there and get a few years in even if I'm not near the top.

I'd like to lose weight. Who wouldn't, right? :-) My doctor tells me I am on the very high end of normal; medication that I am on doesn't help as weight gain is a side effect. I've started adapting some of my eating habits and beginning to train regularly again is the next step. I'd be happy with dropping 20 pounds and then maintaining.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to run the next orienteering marathon which looks like it may happen this fall. Not necessarily to be in contention, just to finish without completely wiping out. This may be too lofty a goal, but we will see. May as well have something to reach for.

I'll have to see where I stand after a few weeks and then break these down into some smaller/more easily achieved steps.

And I will take all the advice and motivation I can get :-) I have a very low drive when it comes to internal motivation so feel free to poke me with a sharp stick now and again if I'm lazy
