Orienteering race 1:17:46 [3] 9.96 km (7:48 / km) +230m 7:00 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon

DVO Regional and VHI at Eyam Moor, course distance 8.3km.

Woke up to a sunny day in Sheffield so decided I fancied a run. Got there at midday to be offered a choice of Short Green or Light Green as they had run out of all other EOD maps. Managed to get onto correct coure by taking Martin Ward's map as he had already run (thanks) although the crappy printing meant that quite a lot of the map had already been rubbed off.

Hamstrings and adductors are still not fully recovered so it was tough in the deep heather and uneven ground early on, kept falling over and walked quite a lot of the way to #5 even though I had just missed #4 (which was a bit bingoesque I thought).

Cruised round quite happily without ever trying too hard, lost time at #4 and also at #13 where I wrongly thought I had to run over the hill and then overshot, and at #15 where I pussyfooted so badly down the two steep slopes that I lost over a minute (!) - probably lost five mins between those three. Mainly okay apart from that although the pale map printing combined with the missing map printing to make some of it a little more challenging than may have been the case otherwise, caused a few hesitations!

Enjoyed it - probably much more than if I had tried to push harder and race, as the steep slippery stuff is not really my bag. Winning time was Nick B on 60mins, Dan Gooch and Ben Hartman close behind so 77mins not too bad considering.

(rest day)

Having got back to running the past couple of days, felt slightly guilty taking a day off. Supressed the guilty feeling without much difficulty...

Running 1:07:37 [3] 9.43 km (7:10 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline Aug 2009

FVO headtorch run up through Hermitage and then the woods between road and reservoir. Muddy marshy footpaths, haven't run on many of them for a while, much fun it was too!

Running intervals 24:00 [3] 4.53 km (5:18 / km)
ahr:130 max:142 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline Aug 2009

Intervals - after a fashion!

Just me and Tom at training for the delights of 4x5mins on the track, all still a bit of a struggle (perhaps I should do some stretching...) so just ran steadily at what turned out to be a bit slower than my overall speed for the marathon (!), covering between 1080m and 1110m each time.

Running warm up/down 33:47 [3] 4.92 km (6:52 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline Aug 2009

Jog before and after and some very token drills beforehand.
