Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [1]
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

various jogging around

Orienteering race 25:08 [5] 4.3 km (5:51 / km) +110m 5:11 / km
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

jk relays, dipton woods

2nd leg for ShUOC
john brought us back in 8th, about 50 secs down
had a pretty good race. overtook the SLOW, EBOR, OD and NOC teams nearish the start. could see hector and neil ahead for most of the course. turns out we had exactly the same course except for the 2nd to last control. small miss on no 7 but pushed thorugh the spectator loop to try and catch up. they missed 11 slightly where I caught up. had the longer gaffle at the end and struggled up the hill. came back 4th behind SYO1, EUOC and SYO2.

unfortunately shminty lost a bit of time so dave set off in 5th, quite a way behind. ended up 5th.

Orienteering 20:00 [1] 2.03 km (9:51 / km)
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

warm up to start + drills

Orienteering race 1:14:35 [5] 12.0 km (6:13 / km) +390m 5:21 / km
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

jk long - detchant, sheillow, greensheen hill and cockenheugh

was feeling great after the warm up. knee was aching a little. was definitely going to suffer physcially so tried to keep the nav good. didn't work so well today. never felt fully in control and head was all over the place at times.

#1 - got confused as to where the actual start was. took ages to work it out and slow into the control
#2 - slow in general. slightly low in the circle and took a while to relocate
#3 - good
#4 - ok, but should have stayed below the crags
#5 - slow up the hill
#6 - ok. good route but stood on top of the feature for about 20 secs.
#7 - hector caught me by 3 mins at this point. didn't attempt to keep up with him as I was knackered already.
#8 - slow through green, really poor into the control. didn't look at the map enough
#9 - stopped way to early and took a while to realise
#10 - slow up the hill and too careful back in the woods
#13 - good route but slow
#14 - too far left
#15 - good
#16 - slow through the heather. fell into the ditch on the taped route and covered myself and map
#17 - good, but slow
#18 - good but a bit hesistant
#19 - bit of a dead running leg. slow up the hill at the end.
#20 - couldn't read map as was covered in mud. missed it by about 10m. was then too low.
#21 - good
#22 - just on a bearing as couldn't read map. was luckly to hit it.
#23 - just aimed for veg. boundary.
#24 - went straight-ish and got stuck in green then was slow across the heather just before the control. path route looked quicker
#25 - ok, but getting pretty slow at this point
#26 - seemed a bit too far down

quite disappointed with the result as i felt the course suited me. annoying that i've lost quite a bit of fitness.

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [1]
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

warm up/down

Orienteering race 40:52 [5] 6.52 km (6:16 / km) +265m 5:13 / km
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

JK middle, Kyloe hills

knew i was going to suffer physically so made sure the navigation was good.

#1 - good. went straight. hit the detail just before the control.
#2 - bit too far off the straight line. good attack point though. big elephant tracks into control
#3 - went round but should have gone straight through the green. missed the ride so wasted a bit of time
#4 - too careful down the hill but hit the control
#5 - poor route. should have gone round the paths. ended up running pretty much parallel to the main track but in the terrain so was quite slow. hit the control well though.
#6 - was a bit hesistant crossing the path and was slow into the control. mapping was quite dodgy but stumbled upon the control
#7 - good but slow up hill
#8 - again, good but slow up the hill
#9 -didn't attack the down hill enough and was to hesistant but spiked the control
#10 - nailed it down the spur but got confused with the mapping of the woods and open. ws much further down than I expected.
#11 - drifted off slightly left and a bit too slow into the control (Spongey caught me here)
#12 - good , a bit hesistant in the circle
#13 - spongey drifted slightly left but I was too slow going staighter
#14 - good
#15 - was chasing spongey and didn't take the best route. cut up through the green rather than round the boundary.
#16 - mapping was a bit confusing with quite a few extra tracks from other runners. knew where i was though.
#17 - got a stuck in the green coming out of 16 but pretty good
#18 - spongey overshot but I realised the open and other competitiors at the control.
#19 - bit slow out of 18 but good

sld = 5.41km

sld=3.2km - ran quite a bit further due to the motorway crossings.

ralph caught me at no. 21 and tried to stick with him but was getting pretty tired towards the end.

quite pleased considering i'd done harly any speed work recently
