Running long 2:00:00 [3] 15.66 mi (7:40 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 1130

Very enjoyable long run from Fi's gran's in Leith. Over to the Water of Leith, down to the docks, back up and right along to the Union Canal. Then back into the centre, along the meadows and down to Holyrood, avoided the carnival procession and home. Cool to go somewhere different. I do really like Edinburgh and felt surprisingly fresh.

Orienteering race (slog) 1:12:59 [4] *** 9.0 km (8:07 / km) +320m 6:53 / km
28c shoes: Integrator Silver Fox

S6D6, Loch Ordie.

Was pretty tired today and found it a real slog. Didn't have a great deal to race for either; maybe a place up or down only. Thought Rich G might have me but he was even slower than me. Was caught by my 3 and 6 minute men when I missed 17 and struggled to keep up, missed 24 badly due to tiredness.

Quite pleased with my orienteering this week, although still plenty of room for improvement of course. Great week, super variety of terrain types, pretty excellent weather.

Orienteering race 48:43 [5] *** 8.0 km (6:05 / km) +130m 5:38 / km
22c shoes: Integrator Silver Fox

S6D5, Barry Buddon.

Scary section to begin, thought I had done ok, but looking at the splits I was slow to 1, missed 2 a bit and 4 badly. After that was pretty solid, a matter of running your wee heart out between dunes.

Was pleased with my run until Kyle came in and had beaten me by 9 seconds. Git. My overall lead was safe though - his dodgy knee yesterday had seen to that. Good battle with Junior all week in fact, good to seem him back on a bit of form.

Orienteering race 1:02:03 [5] *** 9.1 km (6:49 / km) +60m 6:36 / km
29c shoes: Integrator Silver Fox

S6D4, Tentsmuir.

Great fun, chasing start. Just like 2 years ago, I was starting a wee bit behind Richard Guillame. Set off pretty aggressive and as I was leaving 3 Rich and the scandi dude who had started 2 mins ahead were just coming back in. Delighted! I knew the only way to get a reasonable result today would be a bit of group action. However, on the long leg to 8 we all went different ways. I worked really hard, scared I'd ruined my race and was very relieved to spot the others as I headed into the control. The scandi dude was very good and I was just about clinging on, but he was slowly pulling away and by 14 he had lost me. I missed here as I didn't spot a contour under the control circle, Rich caught back up. We had a good race round the rest and he let me have it near the end.

SprintO, Scone Palace and Perth Racecourse.

Felt really hideous and had a well dodgy r hamstring after the footy last night. Cruised round in a wee battle with Kirsten. Navigation was also hideous.

Orienteering race (Classic) 1:02:55 [4] *** 12.0 km (5:15 / km) +570m 4:14 / km
30c shoes: Integrator Silver Fox

S6D3, Tullochroisk

A proper man's course today, with weather to match. Awesome, had a great time, feeling strong. Definitely have been best on the classic races this year. Must be a sign of my age... Caught an unidentified runner around halfway, who a bit of results geeking tells me was Chris Heppenstall. We had a good battle, swopping places regularly, but I finally got away back up the hill to the end. So much more enjoyable than my last experience at Tullochroisk, well, that is, second last experience....

S6D2, Kinnoull and Deuchny

Much more my cup of tea today. Was a bit confused to 1, but fine, but then totally screwed up 2, missing veg and overshooting badly. After that a good wee blast.

Orienteering race 1:29:47 [4] *** 8.5 km (10:34 / km) +400m 8:33 / km
28c shoes: Integrator Silver Fox

Scottish 6 Days, Day 1, Dalruzion.

Cack run. Nowhere near aggressive enough through minging terrain. Got pushed off line by the slope and found 7 before 6. Nice work. Then caught in extreme grot on the way to 16 and lost ages clambering over/under/round/through fallen trees. Got caught up by Sprotty and then Matt Halliday near the end. Was struggling to keep up, but they missed a few times which helped. Extreme cackness.
