Orienteering race 1:33:53 [4] ***
25c shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Absolute epic for the SHIs on Carlingford mountain with the mist well and truly down.

I made huge mistakes. I felt like crying by number 3 it was so difficult. Ed Catmuir had passed me 6 minutes by number 4. So when I caught him again at 6, for my country, I held on! Ed was running fast. But making massive mistakes. Nevertheless, he eventually got away.

I took things steadier, but was still missing badly. But so was everyone else. As I punched 18 I encountered Bogle and co, searching for 15. 19 was frustrating; I was in the feature, but it was so misty I couldn't see the flag. Wasted loads of time coming back to that same feature. Amongst many other issues at almost every control.

Just epic. But really enjoyable. Relieved and proud to be part of the only team to not have any mispunches on what was one of the most difficult races I've ever done. Right up there with that Jukola first leg from a few years back. And, after checking the correct rules, we, Scotland, won!

Gentle warm up to the start.

Orienteering race 54:24 [4]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

SHI Relay, Carnawaddy. 3rd leg for the 3rd Scottish team on a fairly tricky hillside. Although it became clear this was actually a really easy hillside when compared with the next day... Unfortunately my run was not a counter as Jack was feeling bad and hadn't completed. I took things steady and timed things beautifully to pip Kyle by 1 second.

Running 20:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Good warm up cause that's what this old body needs.

Running 1:04:28 [3] 11.3 km (5:42 / km)
shoes: Adidas AdiZero Tempo

Excellent should-have-had-a-torch run from Adam and Alison's and around most of Dunblane. Slightly brisker pace than the last couple of weeks, but still steady.

Running 54:18 [3]
shoes: Adidas AdiZero Tempo

Trot from home round Gowan Hill, King's Park, Cambusbarron and back. Not feeling spritely at all after a day conferencing at Roger's gaff eating too much cake and too many biscuits.

Note

Decided not to head to Touch due to getting back a bit late and the tiredness of my left hamstring.
