Orienteering race 1:11:26 intensity: (12 @1) + (2:32 @2) + (13:16 @3) + (54:44 @4) + (42 @5) **** 8.27 km (8:38 / km) +227m 7:36 / km

SOL6, Wood of Easter Clune (Feughside), Blue/M40S: 6.2km +265m. Very mixed area: lots of rough, rocky/heathery stuff, some big hills, but some very nice running too. I made quite the worst mistake I've made in years, navigating from #2 to #9 - I still can't quite believe that I managed to do that - and threw away 8 minutes in doing so. Other than that I was reasonably solid, apart from a couple of controls where I got distracted by some bloke who started talking loudly to me (even when I was running away!) and I stuffed up twice before I managed to get away. Another 50s on the second last (careless), obviously concentrating too hard on putting andypat off.
Slightly sore head from last night's excellent FVO gathering, and had had a sore back before starting, but the bouncing, ducking and diving required to traverse the terrain early on the course seemed to sort that out. TRIMP 181.

Wee training jaunt round Bell Wood, Aboyne, using the Map of the Month controls. Decided to do this rather than the urban in the afternoon, despite having entered the latter - I knew that that would completely destroy my back, so I'm glad that the opportunity to do something else presented itself. Saying that, I really struggled to see any of the controls in the wood, which didn't exactly fill me with confidence for tomorrow. TRIMP 65.7.

Holme Park Fell and Hutton Roof Crags. I love running on HPF, and every time I drive past it on the M6 I wish I had the time to stop. After leaving Warwick at 8am and finishing my meeting in Stockport at 11:30, today I had the opportunity. Not quite enough time - and nowhere near enough fitness - to run it properly from Burton, but I parked higher up on the road and went out for a wee loop over HPF then a foray into Hutton Roof Crags, which I've never visited before.

The limestone crags and pavement were as lovely as ever, but HRC had a lot more bracken and general vegetation, and I couldn't see any paths up on to the top. In the end I ran out of time and retraced my steps. Seems afterwards that I had to go yet further to find the right turn - so, next time I pass on the M6, I'll now have to stop to do a better job of exploring HRC, too! TRIMP 108.3.

Wee jaunt up to the Gathering Stane before setting off down the M6 and sitting on my bum for the rest of the day. TRIMP 87.9
