Finally Bimberi Peak we got a 1 week window after months of closures for drought/fire risk, first damage, storm damage, COVID and just before winter season closure.
Really nice walking terrain and quite an easy walk in the end. Bush bashing a lot through fire damage and scrub up the peak itself but all the rest on fire trail. Nice and grassy fire trail in a lot of places too.
Spectacular day with lots of remnant frost and snow to add some interest. We took the bikes for first 3.5 km, just to reduce time on feet. It was a bit of a slog up over a ridge each way, but nice downhill as a reward. Certainly we saved a bit of time but the bike pushing was annoying.
One busybody out there who did not think we had left ourselves enough time (longer drive than expected) but apart from Bimberi itself we did move reasonably fast (relatively speaking for a family group). Bimberi was slow at about 30min/km, but we were keeping an eye on the time and knew at absolute worst we'd get back to the car before sunset. Setting up camp in the dark would have been a pain, but not an issue. In the end, coming down was very quick, Aoife didn't run out of oomph and we were back well in time to get to the campsite and set up before losing the light.
