Orienteering 24:09 [3] 3.21 km (7:31 / km) +55m 6:56 / km
ahr:184 max:200 shoes: Aoife

Aoife’s run. Will transfer later. She did ok after the first...

Orienteering 16:55 [3] 2.59 km (6:32 / km) +28m 6:12 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw

An error riddled run, starting from the start triangle! Was totally mixed up re up and down it’s the fort ... wayward to 1, overshot 3, did not see the stairs to exit 5 and ran a lot further than necessary, a bit right to 7 so got wrong control ... fell down the hill to last and did a somersault. Lost my map in the process and went back for it. Lucky to make 6th. Field depleted due to WMOC?

Note

So much for the rest day, it was epic. There is something about us and trains in Switzerland. In 1995 there was the Greve and we could not get to Chamonix. Eoin and I sat in Geneva train station for about 12 hours waiting for the only train to Paris in the next week ( it eventually arrived and departed!). The in 2002 my train was late and I ended up missing my connection and had to walk around Brig by myself in The dark looking for somewhere to stay....
Today, we had to change trains I Lausanne for some inexplicable reason and it slowly dawned on us that we were going to miss our connection to Grenoble. It turned out there were no services to Grenoble at all, but tools us a long time to establish that. We ended up catching a bus to Chambery but got off there as wanted to limit bus time afraid Aoife might get travel sick. Eventually we worked out the train from Chambery was in fact a bus (aka CountryLink and the good old XPT!). We almost missed the bus - Eoin got it to stop for us... eventually picked up our car and the google lady sent us the wrong direction. Getting my lefts and rights right is hard enough for me without driving in the wrong side of the road and having her get it wrong too! ( I failed my first driving test because I could not do left and right...). Finally underway and Aoife eventually did get squeamish so had to take the front seat... a long windy drive. Finally completed by rally driving through the local village following g our host to our apartment. She even had me stop in the middle of the village Main Street to point out the local Boulangerie, pizzeria and Epicurie (new word for me!). Fortunate to arrive before the thunderstorm

Walk 1:51:13 [3] 4.93 km (22:33 / km) +121m 20:05 / km

A shorter than planned walk after a later than planned start. An early morning blackout left Zermatt without the ability to make coffee or sell train tickets! From Blauherd to Stillensee then back to Sunnegga. A nice and not too challenging walk and I saw my first ever Edelweiss - finally! There was just a small patch along the route, luckily I saw them :)

Various exercise 1:23:14 [3] 2.2 km (37:48 / km) +41m 34:34 / km
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

Celebrating the memory of acroroc, Aoife and I did the Zermatt Forest Fun Park. Good fun, lots of zip lines (complete with spectacular backdrops) and hopefully not too much arm work. Ready for a rest day on the train tomorrow.

Walk 2:16:09 [3] 6.76 km (20:08 / km) +156m 18:04 / km

After a VERY expensive ride to the top of the Kleine Matterhorn we walked back via the Matterhorn Glacier trail. Spectacular landscape. Tough downhill to Schwarzsee cable car station. I knew from previous visit not to walk the whole way down! Enjoyed the return visit here but unlikely I would have come if I’d known the cable car prices beforehand!
