Walk 2:00:00 [3] 20.0 km (6:00 / km)

Today’s excursion was a little delayed after missing the bus... again. Spent the morning exploring more of Pamplona’s ramparts. Discovered the world largest chicken pen in one of the old moats (includes turkeys, geese, peacocks, ducks, pheasants as well as many different forms of chicken).

Also had a good explore of the narrow laneways which were silent before and during church, but very busy afterwards.

Then finally got a bus to San Sebastián. Quite a scenic trip but low cloud meant it wasn’t as spectacular as it could have been. Once in SS I headed straight for the furnicular up Mont Iguelda. Walking along the waterfront was very eerie- almost no one about - not sure if due to weather or siesta, but strange! Up the top of Iguelda, views were good, but better weather would have made it amazing. Quite relieved that the fun park was closed and I could not ride the roller coaster. My colleague had suggested it, but I had already said no based on my Luna Park experience. It turns out this roller coaster beats LP hands down for decrepitness and scariness ( it appears to run off the cliff!).

Made my way back via the beach, walked in the ocean - which was freezing! There were 3 brave surfers out, and 3 “swimmers” who just raced into knee deep and out again.

Can now order cafe solo and vino Tinto, need to work on solids now.

Walk 2:00:00 [3] 18.0 km (6:40 / km)

No GPS today. Had the day to myself, being Saturday and against Spanish religion to consider working despite urgency. Started with a tour of the Citadel - another incredible structure of bastions and moats. Did some geocaching around the place just for an activity. Heaps of joggers and dog walkers all over the city but especially around these parks.

Next up took the bus to Olite, a town about 40 min south where there is a restored meieval castle. Very impressive, lots of turrets and towers and passages and stairs to negotiate. Ended up missing my bus back (had out of date timetable) so spent a bit longer wandering around before returning g to Pamplona. Visited the main square and part of the bill route today. I understand the population swells ten-fold for the san Fermin festival - can’t inagine that’s too much fun.

Walk 1:16:51 [3] 6.12 km (12:33 / km) +71m 11:52 / km

An unexpected and unplanned trip to Pamplona. So here I am in Spain completely unprepared, no idea of much and certainly no language skills other than uno, duos, tres... Pamplona is an amazing and beautiful city, today I explored the riverside and ramparts after work. Work finished at 3pm when we went for lunch, which concluded at 5:30. My walk was after this.

The 3 pm departure is a Fridaything although usually lunch is not u til 2 anyway!

After 3 days here I have not stayed awake u til dinner time. It is my mission (Sunday) to attempt to make it as late as foreigner dinner.

An incredible number of kayakers out on the river today. All looked very strong and speedy, the downriver must be fun as water flowing fast.
