Not sure why I ever agreed to this, obviously did not think it through beforehand. Quite tough but pleased to have made it, at one point I calculated we might be up to 30 min late but somehow managed to get back. Had not seen a soul between 3h45 and 5h15 so a relief to see a couple of 'older gentlemen' then, we were pretty hopeful they'd be even slower than us getting back.
Managed to be 2nd last out of the arena as Jayne was in the bathroom when the hooter went off :) We had spend all the time beforehand in the car avoiding the rain so were running a bit late. Rain stopped as we started! Started quite well with only minor issues, as good as you can expect with 'rogaine' standard mapping... Then it took 50 min to get from 68 to 80. Ended up back at 55 in the process as well as managing to find some bush that puts Pinjarra Hills to shame.
Seemed to really slow up once we hit the streets, then another map interpretation problem put us well out on time. We probably could have planned better but really wanted to get out to the coast. The views were good, but the bush views were probably as goods, especially with all the storm clouds around. We ditched a few more controls and moved as fast as possible, faster than I thought possible. Jayne got it into her head to sprint up the 100m straight at the end so I was left wallowing behind and took a good while to recover!
Well set and well placed controls, all in the right spot (except one which was a bonus for us as we'd already decided to ditch it when it appeared on the path in front of us). Thanks Jayne for pushing me along and putting up with my dumb decisions!
