MTBO 1:20:00 [3] 20.0 km (15.0 kph)
shoes: Sidi MTB

Well I was asking for trouble with tubes and no sealant and I got it. I have had a pretty unblemished run in racing without getting punctures. I've had many mechanicals, crashes and stupid moments but never a flat in MTB and only once I can really recall road racing. Today I got 4 and after the 4th there was no fixing it so I had a slow walk back and a good opportunity to appreciate the terrain even more. ( the day started badly when I tried to change tubes and realised I've been riding around with a spare 26" tube since I got the new bike....)
Fantastic riding, views and terrain to be in. Went quite well until 5 where I got the right tracks but was slow and uncertain. Still leading at 6 but had my first flat on the way to 7. Should have stopped and repumped after 7 but kept going. Took the single track after 8, then decided I didn't have enough air for that so turned back. Stupid move as it was longer and I rode over a rock getting out onto the main track and got another rear flat. Had to change tube which took forever. Saw Eoin going into 8 as I was finishing up. Saw him again as I was leaving 9 but then got a front flat. Stopped and reinflated that and was ready to go again as he came back out. Followed him out to the main road and 100m along I was flat again. Stopped, flicked a 'pebble' off the tyre and whoosh - it wasn't a pebble, 3 corner jack. Took the tube out, Nicole Haigh stopped and lent me some patches (I knew she had them after fixing her tyre on the start line). Then spent 5 min searching for the hole and couldn't find it! The fix only last another 100m so I gave up and walked back. To top it off GPS didn't work. Legs pretty tired riding today - a bit of a shock to the system 2 days running.

Aus MTBO at Alice Springs, great fun and so glad we decided to come. Great riding and scenery it's been way too long since I was in the desert. Legs ran our if muscles about 1/2 way around and I made a few mistakes but don't really care :)
