Orienteering race (ACT Long Champs) 1:20:07 [3] 11.33 km (7:04 / km) +280m 6:18 / km
shoes: Inov8 X talon

Finally getting my orienteering act together - I really enjoyed this race and the map and area! Once again I had Tracy for company through quite a few parts and that was good for my confidence and made me run quite hard. BUT, I was happy with the way I navigated both on my own and when she was around. I read the map, made plans and stuck with them. I wasn't influenced by where others were going which was nice. I checked what was going on when there were things to be a bit unsure of. I still made a few mistakes but not overly costly (for me):
3 - went down the wrong gully but guessed that was happening so correcting was easy;
4 - a bit unsure of my height going, that was just a bit of hesitation and checking so probably worth it;
7 - went to the wrong termite mound, but that seemed to be a common thing among quite a few people, not sure how we ended so far left...
14 - final mistake was rushing out of the second last and dropping contours when I needed to climb to the last control. Read map well to recover so not too bad.

I did get a bit sluggish going to 12 and really benefited from having Tracy near me for that one. Not sure why but I think I was starting to get a bit uncertain on a slightly vaguer slope. I would have taken the control from higher up if I was alone and that would probably have cost me a little bit of time.

It was quite wet, it would have been nice to be wearing shoes with a bit better grip today. It would also have been nice to arrive a bit more prepared - with things like raincoats and gum boots. On the list for next time!!!

Orienteering race (ACt Middle Distance Champ) 49:23 [3] 5.53 km (8:56 / km) +190m 7:37 / km
shoes: Inov8 X talon

Return to Collector - I really do like this map! Began badly by running the wrong direction from the start. It took me 28s to figure that out so by the time I came back through I got to wave hello to Tracy who was starting next. OK for the first couple (slow, but I figured most would be). Lost a bit of time through lack of confidence to 3 (should have made it simpler). Went to 5 before 4, but OK getting them after that. Went high to 6 and started to get uncertain when fortunately I looked down & saw Tracy where I was hoping the control would be. Lost her to 7 and different way to 8 but took a better route up the cliffs to 8, finally caught sight again going down to 10. High on 11 but 12 and 13 good. Then punched a wrong control in the vague stuff to 14 so lost Tracy for good. Happy with the run and time in the end.

Ankle strapped tight and held up OK, was tentative with foot placement but it wasn't really a place to try running fast so didn't lose any time from that.

Run 52:00 [3] 8.5 km (6:07 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14

Guess time and distance, GPS ran out. Taking it easy on ankle so no intervals today. All going OK, a bit insecure and sore on some landings but generally pretty good. Still swollen.

Orienteering (Autumn Series) 48:20 [3] 8.2 km (5:54 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14

Same format as summer series, but late starters get to run in the dark! Luckily I took my headlamp as despite starting in perfect light I did at least half the course in the dark. Good fun. 4 minutes late, should have come home a shorter way, but I'd wanted to go my way as it was more scenic and I got to run past my old street that never really turned out.

Ankle OK (taped) but ran with a limited stride. Sore afterwards but probably not aided by wearing work shoes today for the first time in forever.

Yoga 1:00:00 [3]

Hamstring day today. Everything seemed reasonably do-able but legs very shaky by the end, and taking quite a while to recover. Ankle capable of most things (even standing on one leg) so that is good news!

Run 10:00 [3] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14

Not really a run, just ran Tracy's warm-up with her to test my ankle, wore the compression sock thing. It was fairly OK but we were taking it very easy and it was not really up for a hills session so played with the boys instead.

Should be fine to run tomorrow I think. Also still very tired from the weekend. I must be getting old.

Yoga 10:00 [3]

Needed a computer break (and a snack) so got up and did some ankle exercises. Tried the wobble board (hopeless), some one legged part-squats, calf raises (hopeless) and heel drops (not too bad).

Still wearing the sock. Will try some more again later without it.
