Orienteering race (ACT Long Champs) 1:20:07 [3] 11.33 km (7:04 / km) +280m 6:18 / km

Finally getting my orienteering act together - I really enjoyed this race and the map and area! Once again I had Tracy for company through quite a few parts and that was good for my confidence and made me run quite hard. BUT, I was happy with the way I navigated both on my own and when she was around. I read the map, made plans and stuck with them. I wasn't influenced by where others were going which was nice. I checked what was going on when there were things to be a bit unsure of. I still made a few mistakes but not overly costly (for me):
3 - went down the wrong gully but guessed that was happening so correcting was easy;
4 - a bit unsure of my height going, that was just a bit of hesitation and checking so probably worth it;
7 - went to the wrong termite mound, but that seemed to be a common thing among quite a few people, not sure how we ended so far left...
14 - final mistake was rushing out of the second last and dropping contours when I needed to climb to the last control. Read map well to recover so not too bad.
I did get a bit sluggish going to 12 and really benefited from having Tracy near me for that one. Not sure why but I think I was starting to get a bit uncertain on a slightly vaguer slope. I would have taken the control from higher up if I was alone and that would probably have cost me a little bit of time.
It was quite wet, it would have been nice to be wearing shoes with a bit better grip today. It would also have been nice to arrive a bit more prepared - with things like raincoats and gum boots. On the list for next time!!!
