Orienteering 1:50:00 [3] 20.0 km (5:30 / km)
shoes: Saucony Omni

Great fun but it got very tough (physically) towards the end.

I started well, did not understand why there was only myself and David Bray (and now I know James Lithgow went that way too) went the obvious way to 1 - especially since I had been holding a screaming Aoife until 10 sec before the start while everyone else was studying their map! David ran past the 2nd, and I couldn't find it. Fortunately Ben turned up and found it hidden under the decking. After that I had a train of people coming past. Spent quite a bit of the race having people who should have been in front come past me again. I was starting to tire at about 10km and by the first map change was feeling crampy. Had a little rest, a gel and some drinks there before continuing along. Really needed a toilet stop but every time I had one planned, one guy somehow ended up behind again. I even chose a stupid out-of-the-way way to the road crossing on purpose and he turned back and followed me there! Finally I just stopped so he had to go past... By the Victoria Rd crossing I was really suffering and unable to stretch out. I had another gel and couple of drinks there waiting for the lights to change. We then had a pack of 4 together. I doubted I would be anywhere near them for long but managed to hang on and we dropped one. I was third to the finish out of the 3 of us, but I got the moral victory by not crossing through the soccer game :)
A great idea for an event, well set and lots of fun!
... and spot on with the distance too - advertised 20km, actual GPS 19.96km.

Tried to take it very easy in anticipation of hurting tomorrow.

Run hills 33:00 [3] 5.2 km (6:21 / km)
shoes: Saucony Omni

Finally did something slightly harder. Made sure that the warm up and warm down were easy and I only did 3 hills - Westbourne St 3:26, 2:56, 2:52. Time for the first one is a bit of a guess because I pressed the wrong button on my watch.
The hill is 500m long, it start off pretty flat but is very steep at the top.

Run 57:00 [3] 9.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Saucony Omni

Fairyland track, via Tracy's to collect a wayward SI stick. Very tired on the way home.

Run 1:20:00 [3] 13.75 km (5:49 / km) +200m 5:25 / km
shoes: Saucony Omni

Over to Two Creeks and along to Roseville Bridge. This time continued under the bridge and up, up, up the back streets to the top of the hill rather tha nthe main road, then home. Tired and sluggish today but going OK in the middle (flat & downhill) sections.
