MTBO 1:12:00 [3] *** 14.2 km (11.8 kph)
shoes: Sidi MTB

Moved to Nowa Kaletka today - a luxurious holiday resort we're led to believe!!!
Did a short course & really enjoyed it. Only real mistake was in the village area where I got chased by a dog. Am hoping there is not too much village streets in the races as I might fall to pieces there.
Did some extra riding afterwards but cut that short as I was sick of mud puddles.

guesstimated distance. This started out shockingly as I was racing & not concentrating at the start. After taking 15 min to get the first control did reasonably, but not perfect - a lot of room for improvement. A bit more difficult riding than yesterday, in wet conditions.

MTBO 1:04:00 [3] *** 12.0 km (11.3 kph)
shoes: Sidi MTB

A little better but still not taking time to settle into the map at the start. Getting leg tired so cut the course short.

MTBO 20:00 [3] 4.0 km (12.0 kph)

Control collecting. got the starting area down pat this time...

at Wilimy. Managed to get a map from the local hotel without too much trouble. Forgot my map board so had to pretend to be rogaining & ride with the map on a string around my neck. Good map memory practice. I started well, but after a while probably got a bit too confident with the map memory & made a few mistakes. Was also not feeling well. Then planned and started a route from 6 to 7 but was only at 5. Eventually decided that enough was enough & made my way back from there. Rode really hard for this section.

A beautiful forest & fun riding but it would be even better to run through.

In Bialowieza again. This time I went out on the bitumen with the aim of getting more distance on rougher tracks. This failed as the tracks I was trying to take were really just logging retrieval tracks and kept petering out. They were also very muddy & it was obviously the favourite haunt of the local wild boars or bison so this freaked me out a bit, went back onto the forest trails but came across a car that stopped & turned around just after he passed me - another freak out. No dramas though, I think he was just checking logs or some other forestryish thing.

In Poland! Rode around the Bialowieza forest - mainly on roads but some gravel trails, some forest trails and some tracks. Hamstrings getting sore from so few hills & sitting in the one position. Quite warm and very beautiful forest. Stopped for a few photos now & then.
