Orienteering 1:12:26 [3] 8.89 km (8:09 / km) +172m 7:26 / km
shoes: VJ Irock 2

A bit better today. Slow to 1 and 2 but I think many people were... a bit right heading to 3 so went past 4 which seemed ok but was apparently slow. Went well through until 8, which I was a bit conservative for, ran around rather than up an extra hill and ended up too low somehow. Lost possible 1 min. Ok on long leg. Was able to push ok which surprised me. Again ok on next long leg, went left just for variety, I think it was best. Ok to 11 but came across Cam looking confused where I thought I should spot control. It was there, just behind him. Had a brief chat to him after punching which prob cost a bit of time and definitely a bit of concentration as was looking for a pit not erosion gully for 12! Lost a min for my sins.

Orienteering 40:30 [3] 4.58 km (8:50 / km) +105m 7:56 / km
shoes: VJ Irock 2

A bit of a shaky start with first few controls pretty easy but not trusting it could be that easy! A bit high on3, slow to 4 and 5 but accurate. Really blew 6. Ran around right of hill but somehow turned left crossing fully and ended up way high, in green and needing to cross additional gullies to get to right area! Lost possibly 2-3 min here :( a bit of a wobble leaving the control as well. Then all ok, but tired to last control. My lack of eyesight cost me probably a minute on the last, in sight of finish. I was looking for a boulder cluster in a blackberry bush, not a building surrounded by a fence! Oh dear.

Run 40:34 [3] 6.18 km (6:34 / km) +113m 6:01 / km
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

Just some time outside on a beautiful autumn afternoon. Ran a few new tracks for my MTBO mapping. Will be useful if I ever get the OCAD file... Alternated between feeling old, slow, ok, in dire straits etc.

Orienteering 6:04 [3] 1.0 km (6:04 / km)
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

Window course. Aoife had decided we would go on different courses after the first one's issues. Overshot 2. Not feeling too great running - still suffering from eating fast food on Friday night :(

Aoife ultimately ended up trouncing me on this course. No trace as I donated watch for her to use on Score course.

Orienteering 6:24 [3] 1.05 km (6:05 / km)
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

Pent-O at Haig Park - good fun concept and great job from all the junior course setters!
This was the X-country course. I gave Aoife a 90 sec head start but caught her at 4 where she'd gone the wrong direction after crossing the bridge. Major grump for next 10 minutes...
Points: Cath 16, Aoife 13

Orienteering 8:50 [3] 1.48 km (5:57 / km)
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

Score course. Getting slower. Had decided to get 2 far controls but was going a bit slow so cut one far one. Still came in 50 seconds over. Aoife had underestimated her speed/ability so had left out 3, but ran past the finish to get one of those and still finished well under time...

Points: Cath 18, Aoife 17
12 PM

Orienteering 9:04 [3] 1.27 km (7:09 / km)
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

Line course - a bit of a shocker by missing the first control big time. Also got distracted on way to 4 - ran near a control I was sure I hadn't;t visited so assumed it was on this course! Number 4 was a bit of a loop-loop exercise with little reward!

Points: Cath 15, Aoife 17
Another trouncing.

Orienteering 11:00 [3] 1.6 km (6:52 / km)
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

Map memory. Both lack of speed and lack of concentration got me on this one. Spent the time at 4 making the route choice for 5, but did not really look at control location... Got in the vicinity and just hunted around until I saw a flag! Glad the be over and done with :)

Points: Cath 16, Aoife 17

Totals: Cath 81, Aoife 82

A tough day out but same for everyone. Think I did ok, but slow going. Will be interesting f to see the results. Quite clean for most controls. Slow going into 7 but got it ok It ok in the end.

Quite reasonable technical training, very good physical training!

ACT Sprint champs at Deakin office complex. A relatively good run and interesting new area, used really well by Shannon. Was surprised to run quite well after a long day yesterday and a busy morning watching Aoife’s sports...

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Irock 2

Women’s training weekend. First exercise with advanced group, compass, corridors, fine detail, with Hilary. Second exercise with the beginners and Barbara. More compass work, and route choice. Breaking the legs down into manageable sections. Finally put out a few controls for peg relay.

Tired and long drive home after!

Orienteering 50:08 [3] 4.05 km (12:23 / km) +29m 11:57 / km

Putting out controls. Quite green, prickly and tricky. Got them all in the right spot, surprisingly!

shoes: VJ Irock 2

Women’s training weekend. 3 exercises - first with moderate people doing contours (with Paula), second with beginners doing basic compass, map reading and route choice ( with Martina), last doing a map/rock walk, with the stragglers and Hilary.

Orienteering 33:49 [3] 4.33 km (7:49 / km) +85m 7:07 / km

Last of Wednesday night events, I think I went to enough to get a series score! At Radford, and it seems Aoife was same pace as me with the benefit of a bit of local knowledge. I was fortunate to have a few good splits through the rough sections compared to her.
Overall quite slow and a couple of wrong turns cost me time.

Note

Tried to run but hip niggling and legs not quite recovered enough to protect it. Nice walk instead.

MTBO 2:05:12 [3] 21.96 km (10.5 kph) +332m
shoes: Sidi MTB

Sparrow Hill MTBO. Took it reasonably cruisy to start with. Stopped to check Lily and Aoife were OK. Stopped to chat (briefly) to Nadine. First big mistake was crossing tunnel on way to 5 then realising the control was on the original side! Next was a route choice mistake - rode a long way around to avoid some wiggly track - not worth it. Next up, took a left turn quite confidently, even though I was having trouble working out how the tracks joined up - this caused me to ride a long way down hill necessarily. OK for a few legs and feeling good keeping pace with Carolyn (who was riding hard - appalled at the fact I'd "caught her', when in fact she'd caught me...). Then a complete mental shut down leaving 13 I went the opposite way than intended. Knew immediately but ho, hum I won't turn back but go the stupid uphill twice as long way. 14-15 was a slog and the only hill I walked up all day. From there to the finish I was being careful, trying to read the detailed tracks right - mostly did. Needing glasses badly by this stage.

Aoife and Lily, and Nadine all did the short course - superb effort from all - they basically did 2/3 our course and on quite a few really tough tracks.

So glad of the pool when we got home!

Orienteering 47:25 [3] 5.36 km (8:51 / km) +51m 8:27 / km

A “me” day!!!
First course was “full speed no mistakes”. I went as fast as I could and tried to ignore my mistakes! Missed a couple of controls but generally kept going trying g to keep flow.

Beautiful out o n the map today! Glenbrook near Berridale.

Orienteering 50:19 [3] 5.59 km (9:01 / km) +135m 8:02 / km
shoes: VJ Irock 2

Second course tried to us long legs, general navigation until circle, then some Short detailed legs. Handled detail far better than general. Tired- biggest day out for a while, plus quite warm.

Parched by end. Stopped in at Cooma on way home for coke!
