Orienteering 23:06 [3] 3.12 km (7:24 / km) +29m 7:04 / km
shoes: New Balance

Woeful run at Orana School. Started without my compass and was completely bamboozled within 30m. It was so bad I was running to controls and trying to find them on my map to relocate. Got it sorted after2 but had lost a heap of time and confidence. Lots of poor route choices but they would not have made much difference.

Orienteering 26:48 [3] 3.85 km (6:57 / km) +12m 6:51 / km

Sprint at Uni of Canberra. Tired after late to bed last night. Did not feel as bad running as yesterday but that's because I was going slower (yes, it was possible). Scrappy quite a bit early and lost track of where I was going to 9.

Orienteering 25:03 [3] 3.29 km (7:37 / km) +48m 7:06 / km

My favourtie day of the sprints - the bush levelled the playing field for me :). I've been to Bruce Ridge twice before - made an absolute mess of both NOL (quite a few years ago) and MTBO last year. Got it right this time so quite pleased with myself. Was also happy I thought to borrow Andy's compass before heading out. What I failed to do was teach Aoife how to use mine before I sent her off with it. A long day out for little girls today.

Sprint at AIS. Got trapped early (and where I should have known better) wishful thinking does not pay in a sprint!. Struggled to keep running the whole way. Moving started today so was a bit tired. Breathing terrible.

Cycling 26:37 [3] 9.38 km (21.1 kph) +11m
shoes: Sidi MTB

Eventful riding today. Going in there was the nice lady who blasted her horn at me as she sailed through the red light at the pedestrian crossing. Coming home, a bendy bus turn right across my path on Marcus Clarke. Brakes worked exceptionally well both times. I've left a (tyre) skid mark at the bus incident. Looking forward to a new commute route soon.

To and from work. Fast times due to time pressures and lack of traffic. Nothing to do with strength or fitness.
2 PM

Various exercise 12:00 [3]

“Death by burpees” delivered by my live in personal trainer. I have new-found and boundless respect for the training Aoife has done this week.

I made it to level 12, 81 in total.
5 PM

Run 35:31 [3] 5.53 km (6:25 / km) +103m 5:52 / km
shoes: New Balance

Run during swimming training. Felt better but still slower than earlier this week, need to manage to increase the distance soon.

I did not move to Canberra to get the hot and sweaty! Seemed ridiculously humid tonight but maybe I am acclimatising.

While Aoife was swimming. Feeling a bit more normal running. Lots of room for improved fitness!

I've had some bad runs lately and this was well up there. Had a cracking headache from a day at the zoo yesterday, followed by a restless night (sleeping on Cockatoo Island on a very calm still night I could hear every noise of the city - still trying to work out how I could hear the trains!), compounded by limited coffee beforehand. Poor pre-planning meant we didn't realise the Sunday ferry timetable was different to Saturday and did not leave the island until 9:20. Had to go via Eoin's office and Aoife's friend's (where we decided to leave her in the pool and come back later) so didn't arrive until about 10:30, so a late start in the heat. Got 1 OK then completely missed 2 trying to go cross country, not realising scale.. When I got to a path decided to skip 2 but get all the rest. Then (on another stupid cross country route) banged my head on a branch. That was it for me, was seeing too many stars! Came back walking via 5-7,13,14,2,15. Glad to get to run at the wildflower garden, looking forward to going back on a better day.

Various exercise 20:00 [3]

Wild Ropes course at Taronga. Good upper body workout - shoulders and neck locked solid for next 36 hours. Good fun though, not as difficult as the AcroRoc but more arm work.

Note

Got up and dressed in running clothes at 5:30 to take Aoife swimming. Impossible to get her out of bed so I went back to bed too. No training today after all those good intentions.

Another early morning visit to Bruce Ridge, this time in the bike, champion swimming effort from Aoife this week! No way could I do what she’s done. Ever.

from Nat's to coffee.

MTB 55:00 [3] 13.07 km (14.3 kph) +171m
shoes: Sidi MTB

Bruce Ridge with Nat and Al, via house. Nice cut-through down to tracks looks great for future access. Good fun out there. I ended up in the gravel with a flat - not sure which cam first but probably the flat. Used CO2 canister successfully for the first time ever! A bit of a nervous nellie after that especially as front tyre was now pretty hard and slipped a lot. Getting a feel back by the end but still not great.
