Wanted a good day today (and as under pressure to get back to man the start). Started well but wheels fell off on way to 2. Looking for a saddle and could not see it in flat terrain so ran to where I thought it was ( regardless of compass). Was mightily wrong and lost 6 min! Ok for most ofthe way apart from getting unstuck getting to 7 in same area where I went wrong to 2.

A slightly better day today. Again wayward on 1, got pushed around by thick bush and found myself near finish... Ok until 5 where I tried to cut through high and early. Was too high and too early. Again, cut in early to 6 and lost a little time. Going to 8 I contoured via forest and could see a likely candidate for the control site from far off but did not head to it as it appeared so low. It was in fact the contrl, something funny with the map around there... Went too high to 9 and had to back track somewhat, obviously looked at neither my map nor compass to 10 and that cost 2 min - luckily no more.

About the same speed as Eoin for the part of the course where he and his broken foot were "taking it easy".

Oh dear, not a good day.

Had trouble getting into the map on way to 1 - you can see from trace I did a half-moon deviation back to the road heading to 1. Then on way to 3 just lost my head. Did not keep good track of where I'd been and where I was up to, translocated myself to somewhere else and ran down wrong (very long) spur. Need to concentrate better. Funnily, after I knew I'd made a massive mistake, my foot/ankle got sore (old crepitis style sore) and that stopped me running properly for rest of the course. It was in spasm for the next hour and then disappeared...

Hard work today, felt like I'd run 10km not 2. Mucked up entrance to 3 despite stopping to check if there was a way through. Need to look at stronger glasses I think. After that ran wrong direction to 4. OK from there on.

Walk 1:05:22 [3] 3.71 km (17:37 / km) +73m 16:03 / km

Final stage of the geocache Trail. Solo this time, I knew it would be steeper and didn’t want to push the friendship with Aoife :) made it to the end before the thunderstorm hit(it never did despite threatening all afternoon). Struggled with the first 2, all good after that.

Could not crack the code to find the final cache. Regardless, set out in a hunch after dinner and found it at one of my secret hideouts from child hood. Great to revisit after too many years!

Annual walk up Tomaree. Great that the firls ran on ahead and we did not see them until the top!
3 PM

MTB 1:49:36 [3] 6.55 km (3.6 kph) +50m

Another geocaching expedition. Again, Aoife was pretty game riding the sandy tracks and very game bush bashing to get to sites. I was petrified of snakes and she was oetrified if spiders. We make a great team! Got another 12. Night try to get them all and slice the puzzle before heading home on Tuesday.

Tried for a run but plantar fascia locked solid. Mainly walking with a few soots I’d run each time I thought my foot had loosened out. Hopefully just a remnant reaction from the water park.
2 PM

MTB 59:44 [3] 4.79 km (4.8 kph) +68m

Geocaching expedition with Aoife. We found 5 in a series of 35. She did ok on the sand but under protest.

Various exercise 1:00:00 [3]

Splash water park in Nelson Bay. Was not acting my age today and paying for it for rest of the week! Very sore shoulders, pecs and ankle joints with lots of hauling myself up things and balancing on top of giant floating objects.

MTB 1:40:41 [3] 22.6 km (13.5 kph) +287m

Sparrow Hill with Eoin. Quite a bit cooler today and mostly feeling better, but still had a few wobbly moments. Nice out in the forest and despite an enormous number of cars at the car park, hardly saw anyone.

Bruce Ridge with Eoin. Had a melt down just as we hit Super D so cut it short and came straight back.

Last minute decision to go to the street orienteering - Aoife was keen to run around the AIS, but it was mainly in Bruce or the Tafe. Good fun, I was a bit rusty with the black and white map and scatter format. A couple of mistakes, misreading in one spot and not seeing the big black line meaning impassable fence in another. I tried to take as many "bush" options as possible. Nice to get out for some fresh air and sunshine after a wet day.
