Over to Majura PInes and a lap with Eoin. Very unco to begin with and at the end as back was very sore and could not manage bike handling very well. Great out there, it will be sad to lose these trails.

Late afternoon lap of Cook with Nat after a pretty lazy day. Great to get out and keep tired, sore body moving.

Run 43:34 [3] 6.02 km (7:15 / km) +221m 6:07 / km
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

Attempted late afternoon run. It was a slog. Beautiful out though - I love watching the weather across Canberra from Mt Majura and today was pretty speccy watching the rain bands crossing over the suburbs while I felt like I was standing above it all. Didn't really get wet either but it was slippery on the rocks in the steep part down.

Run 1:10:00 [3] 8.0 km (8:45 / km)
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

3 days, 3 runs! Again without my watch - this time forgot to start it and for the first time ever did not look at it until almost home.

With Nat up Majura - little track up to the ridge and back down around the back towards saddle. Came back on powerline track until I had the brilliant idea of cutting across the paddocks to make a short cut home. We seemed to be cutting across for ages longer than I expected - usual story - run with me and you never know where you'll end up! GPS track would have been interesting today.

Sensational day out and nice to get away from the computer for a bit :).

My legs are telling me they are not used to running - especially down hills.

Run 40:00 [3] 6.5 km (6:09 / km)
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

Estimated time and distance as another run without my watch. It tried to do some update sequence when we were starting and never recovered, probably something to do with running out of battery yesterday. I have the language set to Swedish which is fine most of the time but I haven't a clue when it starts telling me complicated things.

Anyway, the run was with Nat around Aranda bushland, we seemed to go further than previous few times, almost a humid afternoon out, but not really if you compared to Sydney :).

Jog 40:00 [3] 5.0 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

This one started as a run but my watch ran out after 2km and I got a bit slack after that. Beautiful afternoon out on Majura and I got to see and echidna (twice). Out and back along the little path up the hill.

MTB 5:09:41 [3] **** 47.76 km (9.3 kph) +1035m
shoes: Sidi MTB

I was worried that we had signed up for something beyond our current capabilities and I was right about that! This was a lot more difficult than last year (where we did the 25km option). The day started poorly without coffee and standing in the start queue for an hour! If I had been thinking I would have worked out what was going on and ditched the queue for the coffee - we weren't trying to get in an early pack. By the time we started i was shaking with cold, but we warmed up soon enough and it turned into a beautiful day.

There was a fair bit more fire trail this year (up and down). The single track was 1/2 great, 1/4 tough and 1/4 insanely beyond our abilities. In the end I was riding over stuff I would not normally attempt just because I was sick of getting on and off my bike. This caused a few precarious moments when I'd only make it 95% of the way up something (usually rock steps) and then have to find a way to bail out. Fun times...

Overall I was happy to finish but it was a slog - much harder than Highland Fling a few years ago. Took quite a few tumbles from just being a bit useless at rocky trails, nothing serious.

Worst injury is probably from somehow ending up in Eoin's knicks instead of mine. Stupid to have almost matching pairs, but at $10 each neither of us could turn down a bargain.

Back kept getting sore riding but recovered a bit at teach stop. The good news was it was more SI related and balanced as opposed to the usual one side goes in to spasm/shut down...

Now to decide what to sign up for next - it won't be a 100km MTB that's for sure. Susie finished the 100 in less than an hour longer than it took us to do 50!

Absolute disaster of a ride. Head was not in the game at all... Should have been lots of fun but by the time I was functioning it was well and truly over. Good fun course (if I had done it properly).

Swim 12:00 [3] 0.5 km (24:00 / km)

A shock to the system. My hope for more was thwarted by being so out of condition as well as traffic - only 1 lane open made for too many stops and interruptions to get moving properly.

Ride to work. A great trip until the last km. I could have walked that faster. Traffic light mayhem.

Cycling 29:13 [3] 7.06 km (14.5 kph) +70m
shoes: Sidi MTB

Work to swimming. Don;t think I'll make a habit of this, kept getting caught by construction in ANU, then got swooped by a magpie and stuck at traffic lights. From there a slog up hill, including a helpful sign telling me I was in a "swoop zone", no incidents but was riding scared... tempted to ride some tracks in Bruce Ridge but running a it late.

Orienteering 3:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (18:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Irock

Turning on controls, placing more radios, various running around and collecting controls. Beautiful out in the forest with frost sparkling on the ground and Si units.

Almost forgot to put out the start triangle, and then almost forgot to bring it back in. Also nearly couldn't relocate the radio repeater I'd taped to a random tree this morning!

Biggest scare of the day was seeing maps blowing off the fence before the start after a beautiful still early morning. A bit of a nightmare, salvaged by some savvy picketing and finally a drop in the wind. I doubt the maps would have lasted the requiemrwd duration under early conditions.
