Walk 2:40:00 [2] 12.1 km (13:14 / km) +220m 12:07 / km
shoes: Mizuno (blue)

Spit to Manly with some girls from work (walking). If I'd know Jayne was chasing us I might have let them dawdle a bit more. I nice excursion but I would have preferred to run it. Managed to twist my ankle and end up sprawled across the footpath within the first 100m.

Run (Intervals) 30:00 [3] 4.4 km (6:49 / km) +19m 6:40 / km
shoes: Mizuno (blue)

Better than last week, but still gave up less than half way through.

5 short ones then tried to do a long and failed, had a rest and tired another short but failed at that. Managed to get through the first set without hamstring hurting but it had had enough by then.

Lovely cool run in the middle of the day with Paula, Fairylands from her place, clockwise. A long way to go on the fitness front, but I think (hope) I am making small progress.

shoes: Kayano 20 Purple

I agree with Mark - trying to decide whether I enjoyed this - the planning and legs were excellent but control placement and descriptions a bit annoying. I was so overheated I did a lot of walking from about half way through and was quite unsteady on my feet for some time afterwards.

Major time losses were on 11 (wrong level), 12 (bad route, but did get the correct side of wall). 13 (left 12 wrong direction through being tired), 16 (did not read description and planned a good route to get to lower level). Also possibly went OOB on the way to 16 but hard to tell as control was on top of the covered area (car park), not the "running level".

Jog (Kind-of Intervals) 28:00 [3] 4.0 km (7:00 / km) +12m 6:54 / km
shoes: Kayano 20 Purple

Made my return to intervals tonight but they were more like bursts of jogging than bursts of running, a sad state of affairs.

Managed 5 short ones before body said no-more!

Orienteering (Summer series) 53:12 [3] 7.97 km (6:41 / km) +148m 6:06 / km
shoes: Kayano 20 Purple

Awful run from me, very sluggish and hamstring annoying right from the start. I have no right to complain as have not run since Christmas, need to get my act together.

9 min late, I should have picked up some extra points early and not gone across the freeway. Also last ditch deviation to 11 was not worth the effort.

Feeling my advanced years now!

Walk race 43:38 [3] 1.74 km (25:06 / km) +207m 15:44 / km
shoes: Kayano 20 Purple

Leven Canyon walk - quite spectacular - better than indicated in the brochures and a good way to spend some time on our free day.

Walk 1:30:00 [3] 5.05 km (17:50 / km)

Cradle Mountain walk for my birthday. I've decided to give National Parks my mobile number - they can call on me anytime this area is in drought or suffering a heat wave- I can fix it. 2 out of 2 for apalling weather here for me now. Aoife and Eoin were very tolerant letting me do this walk - thanks!

Walk 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Kayano 20 Purple

Ride and walk to Fossil Cliffs and part way to Bishop and clerk. Waiting for the rain to arrive.

Aoife had a massive stack coming down the grassy hill - she was very brave to get back on and ride back to camp (eventually).

Orienteering (Oceania Long) 1:10:30 [3] 6.36 km (11:05 / km) +601m 7:32 / km
shoes: Kayano 20 Purple

Worst shocker in quite some time. Started out OK and thought was doing fine having caught the 2, 4 and 6 min ahead of me runners by 3. Looking at the splits I was very slow to 3 without realising it at the time. Then was going well running with Anita but hit the big climb to 7. Lost it there and took an age to get up the hill. Then the crazy stuff started 8 was the long leg and I decided to go around the road as despite my slow running, I was just not moving well in the tough terrain. I took a bad line out of the control, missed the crossing through green but (un) wisely decided to bash through. Spent about 10 min zig zagging and stumbling in circles through no-mans land before emergin out the other side. By this stage my legs were shot. I panicked when I worked out where I was and rather than just continuing my original plan I decided on the no guts no glory approach and reverted to the straight route - over a mountain it was obvious no-one else had tackled. This just kiled me, sapped all my energy and left me dejected as part way along I knew I'd thrown away an opportunity for a good race. Survived to the finish but had no energy left by the end so was just stumbling along.

Walk 1:29:45 [3] 3.57 km (25:08 / km) +191m 19:50 / km
shoes: Kayano 20 Purple

Douglas Aslpey National Park. Left Eoin, Aoife and a bunch of other adults and kids skimming stones at the waterhole. Richard, Gary, Vanessa and I started the gorge loop but turned back after 20 min as we were under a bit of time pressure and had no idea of how long it would take. Nice flowers but didn't really get any views.

Orienteering 54:23 [2] 3.06 km (17:47 / km) +100m 15:17 / km
shoes: Kayano 20 Purple

Wineglass Bay lookout and then Aoife's Easy EOD course at Coles Bay. It was quite hard so lots of heated discussions along the way :). A pity there were no hard EOD maps for me, I could have taken someone else's after the event but had lost motivation by then.

Orienteering race (Oceania Middle) 36:26 [3] 3.5 km (10:25 / km) +10m 10:16 / km
shoes: VJ Bold 2013

I loved this area, was not at all happy with my run but managed to come away as the least unscathed to win the day. Lost a bunch of time towards the end, some my fault for rushing and not reading the map properly but others did also lose a bit as the mapping seemed quite vague.

MTB 2:01:54 [3] 10.92 km (5.4 kph) +221m
shoes: Sidi MTB

Great fun riding around Hollybank reserve. Some time on the skills part, then 'No Sweat' with Aoife and 'Tall Timbers' by myself. We all had a great day, Aoife did well getting better on the berms and riding up the not so steep parts. Lots of on-off walking in the steeper sections in the middle which was a bit frustrating. Had to drag ourselves away to lunch in the end.

Orienteering race (Oceania Relay) 36:29 [3] 4.3 km (8:29 / km) +66m 7:53 / km
shoes: VJ Bold 2013

Got psyched out before starting this knowing I was running against Marquita... I took off ahead of her but had no idea how far. Number 1 was so easy but I got stuck in a mud hole on the first gully and lost a minute extracting myself. Marquita's 1 was down the hill and so she made up the 1 minute deficit right there. We got 2 together and took separate ways to 3. She got hers first and I got bamboozled as mine was a bit further along. I lost a good few minutes there but apparently she did the same at 4. We had no idea where each other was. Got everything clean through to the spectator but took a bad route out of the spectator. Came into 9 high and saw Marquita only just ahead so that gave me a boost. Catching her towards 10 but once again she had the closer control, I had no trouble finding mie but it was a good way further up the hill so lost my momentum again. I must have come back towards her on the last few controls as I got most pretty well but she was still out of sight at the finish.

Orienteering race (Oceania Sprint) 17:20 [3] 2.87 km (6:03 / km) +13m 5:55 / km
shoes: Kayano 20 Purple

Quite warm and I had to wait until virtually last start to get out. Not a great run by me (mistake riddled) but somehow managed to come 3rd despite throwing a chunk of time away, even right near the end I was making 30-45 second mistakes! Need to practice sprints more, its been a while since I've done any properly.

Orienteering 20:00 [3] 1.5 km (13:20 / km)

Aoife and I started the Womens WC qualifying. Aoife was keen to begin with but quickly lost interest so that saved me running up too many hills.

Cycling 1:57:53 [2] 22.22 km (11.3 kph) +163m
shoes: Sidi MTB

Ride along the Yarra to fill the day. Our planned lunch cafe was shut so had to return to the botanic garden before eating.

Stopped on the way back for Aoife to do a climbing wall practice - nice are set up under one of the bridges.

Also spent an hour in the botanic gardens doing the fairy trail - I pity anyone with sub standard map reading skills trying to do it! Appalling map an misplaced signs made a frustrating time for us but Aoife enjoyed it.
