Yoga 1:00:00 [3]

Lots of legs then stomach to finish with

Run hills (Broadwalk) 48:00 [3] 8.4 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

3 * Broadwalk
3:28
3:32
3:38
Felt tired the whole way, was impressed by the first 2 times, even more impressed with Eoin's. The last was tough but similar to recent or not so recent efforts.

Run 1:02:30 [3] 11.25 km (5:33 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

Kings Park with Richard. Felt pretty good & cruisy tonight. Much better than most recent runs. Pretty warm out & a nice sunset too. We even did the DNA tower to admire the view.

Tuesday Jul 28, 2009 #

Run 55:00 [3] 9.5 km (5:47 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

To KP, short loop & home. Gareth & Kellie came along so a good chat too.

MTBO (Teva Race) 4:00:00 [3]
shoes: Sidi MTB

A fun event (had to recite that a few too many times to start with) but very enjoyable all the same. More later

Run 8:00 [3]
shoes: Kayano 15

Friday Jul 24, 2009 #

Yoga 1:00:00 [3]

Mainly stomach & stretching today

Thursday Jul 23, 2009 #

Run 1:04:00 [3] 11.3 km (5:40 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

With Richard. Did quite a few sandy hills tonight so pace OK. Nice evening out with no prospect of getting wet for a change.

Run hills (Mount St) 42:00 [3] 6.6 km (6:22 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

Mount St hills again. Made it to 5 this time & might have even tried 6 if I wasn't short of time. Started a bit slow got better.
1:45
1:48 (think I fell asleep again on this one)
1:39 (got mad at myself)
1:40
1:37

Tuesday Jul 21, 2009 #

Cycling 20:00 [3] 8.0 km (24.0 kph)
shoes: Sidi Road

Run 48:00 [3] 9.3 km (5:10 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

To Kings Park then the 8km. Took is easy to begin and ran the hilly section reasonably hard. Had a short stop near the KP offices and then got stopped early as Eoin & Aoife hadn't gone home yet. Time was 38:14 so would probably have been close to 38:30 if I'd run to the finish.

Orienteering 22:37 [3] 3.7 km (6:07 / km)

Relays at Peterdine. This year Eoin went first & failed to implode so I tried pretty hard. As a result made a couple of small errors (at 2 and 7) in the general vicinity but not finding the flag quickly enough, was a bit wayward to 3, but knew where I was.

Orienteering 24:40 [3] 4.0 km (6:10 / km)

4th leg of the relay. Eoin handed over a bit behind Ian and I thought likely clear of the next person so I should have just walked around and not made any mistakes. Started well enough but came majorly unstuck on way to 3. Ran down the wrong spur (looking at the map now there wasn't really a spur there for me to run down). 5 minutes lost (& sorry to Ricky for leading him astray). Managed to hang around long enough for Ben to catch up. Ran cleanly to the next couple, but after the effort of trying to outrun Ben up 2 climbs I was way off with the faeries going to 6. Lost 30sec or more there in extra distance, no time lost other than that. Ben and Ian were both clearly ahead so we got the Tin medal, well done to them & Craig & Rachel. Lucky Rachel was sick otherwise we would have been even more embarassed.

Cycling 1:26:00 [3] 40.0 km (27.9 kph)
shoes: Sidi Road

Pretty strong headwind down to Fremantle, then picked it up OK, but still a very slow average.

Yoga 1:00:00 [3]

Did a lot of stretching today & needed it.

Thursday Jul 16, 2009 #

Run 50:00 [3] 9.0 km (5:33 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

A stormy evening run in KP with Richard. Didn't get too wet but quite cold afterwards. Feeling quite tired so came the most direct way home.

Wednesday Jul 15, 2009 #

Run hills (Mount St) 40:00 [3] 6.3 km (6:21 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

Did make it out of bed after 5 minutes convincing myself that the calf cramp was a figment of my imagination. 4 * Mount St hills:
1:43
1:43
1:39
1:38
No worse than the previous attempt when I though I was a bit fit (although I did 5 that time).

Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 #

Cycling 20:00 [3] 8.0 km (24.0 kph)
shoes: Sidi Road

Run 50:00 [3] 9.5 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

A lot slower tonight. I have a plan to not only wake up early tomorrow, but also get out of bed, put my running clothes on, go out the door & run.

Monday Jul 13, 2009 #

Cycling 20:00 [3] 8.0 km (24.0 kph)
shoes: Sidi Road

MTBO 1:28:00 [3] 23.0 km (15.7 kph)
shoes: Sidi MTB

Should have asked Jen for some tips beforehand. Rode OK but tired at the end - obviously a bit of training is required to fix that. But the big problem (once again) was knowing I was doing the wrong thing & not doing anything about that - did I learn nothing last year???? There is no point getting any fitter if I can't orienteer.
Great area for a ride & had lots of fun despite being annoyed with myself.

MTB 35:00 [3] 7.0 km (12.0 kph)
shoes: Sidi MTB

Took Aoife out in the trailer. At first she complained it was too bumpy, then fell asleep. Tried to do some single track but it is tough manoeuvring with an extra 30kg dragging behind.

Run 40:00 [3] 6.5 km (6:09 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

Well I had planned on doing 13km, even considered trying to stretch it out to 90min which is what I should be doing right now, but felt abysmally bad. Nothing would move, so took it easy and came straight home from the bottom of the dual carriageway instead of heading back up the hill.
Lucky it was a beautiful sunny day and the Hovea was coming out so that I had something to enjoy.

Friday Jul 10, 2009 #

Run 30:00 [3] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

Pilates cancelled today and since I was out did a quick 1/2 hr run instead. Taking it easy, a bit overdressed in long tights.

Thursday Jul 9, 2009 #

Run 1:03:00 [3] 11.4 km (5:32 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

Kings Park with Richard. Nice evening & lucky to miss any rain. I would not have liked being out this morning!

Tuesday Jul 7, 2009 #

Run 50:00 [3] 9.3 km (5:23 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

Kings Park - 38:36 for the 8km which was an improvement on last time. This time I was quite relaxed running & surprised by the good time. Still feeling very tired from the weekend.
Thanks to Nicole & Richard for the lift home afterwards, really didn't feel like the extra bit.

Orienteering 1:08:24 [3] 10.5 km (6:31 / km)

Umuna mass start race. I wasn't supposed to be in the mass start, but Eoin managed to injure himself yesterday so I had to. Ended up enjoying the run and managed to be by myself for most. Was with Rachel to 3. I had been planning to skip 4 but didn't know if taking one out that early was a mistake. Then after concentrating on what Rachel was doing & not myself I lost a few seconds going to 3 and was annoyed with myself. So definitely decided to take off on my own. I think it was for the best. Ran my own race from there, but had trouble pushing myself hard. Was fortunate to have Craig & Ricky come through on 7-8 and used them to keep running up the hill towards 9 (I had been banking on this when skipping an early control). Really struggled from 9-10 (well done Rachel for seeing that option as I hadn't even considered dropping 9). When I couldn't see Rachel behind at 9 so I thought I was fine to dawdle home, but lo & behold there she was just before 12! I would have preferred she had been a couple of minutes in front than right with me at that point. No energy left to speak of & a steep climb out of 12... We both missed 13 a bit & it was my lucky day because when we popped over the spur into the right gully I was dead on line & she was a couple of metres & a few hundred rocks too high. Got a bit of a gap that I managed to hold until the finish, although I think if she'd really wanted to win I could have been overhauled no worries.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3] 10.0 km (9:00 / km)

Helping Eoin with Junior camp exercises. Put out controls, shadowed Rachel (she's a strong runner!), and then collected controls. Wasn't expecting such a long day & felt tired & slow throughout. 3 times up the steep hill (once pushing the pram) was a couple of times too many for me in my present state of unfitness.

Run 58:00 [3] 10.8 km (5:22 / km)
shoes: Kayano 15

Finally. Kings Park with Richard & at the start he suggested we do the whole run on sand tracks - therefore in my element. Felt great to finally be out and felt good running too. Nice cool evening after a fine sunny day.
As a bonus, also finally had a day off.
