Thanks to early morning babysitter Nicole & tow-truck Richard. Brutal easterly blowing as per usual every time I ride.

Too tired to do a full session. All muscles still firing though which was a good sign.

Kings Park with Kim. Makes me mad when they block off paths in parts of the park we are never allowed to orienteer in and security guards expect you to push a pram around their stupid detours rather than along 100m of road in their sight! Aoife got a nice bumpy ride around an alternate (but at least sealed) route, too bad if someone didn't know every track & surface in the park...

Orienteering race 55:44 [4] 6.6 km (8:27 / km) +150m 7:35 / km
shoes: Silva ProLite

Easter Day 3 - chasing start. Was at the end due to yesterday's efforts. Took a running route to no. 1 but found approaching the control difficult (could see where I wanted to go but progress was slow). Caught Louise on the way here and Jasmine (started 1 min after me) punched before me after going straight. Lost her on the way to 2 (problems downhill again). Happy with 2 & 3, low on 4. 5 & 6 easy. Got distracted by Tassie girl going to 7 who pulled me down off the hill so I lost time, but not as much as Jasmine who appeared again here. Really enjoyed the second 1/2 of the course much more like home terrain and easier going for running. Had Jasmine to keep me running but happy to do my own navigating. Almost ran past 15 straight for 16 (that would have made it twice I'd not seen the offending 134) but realised at about the perfect moment to not cost me too much time. No legs in the finish so knew I'd done as much as possible today.
(Distance from GPS course was 5.6)

Orienteering race 1:30:00 [3] 9.5 km (9:28 / km) +250m 8:22 / km
shoes: Silva ProLite

Easter Day 2 (Classic) - Today was disastrous for me. Physically I was not strong from the start & my orienteering was shockingly bad to match. I knew that with only 60 min runs so far I would struggle today and that I had to be orienteering well to finish. This didn't happen I went the wrong way out of the start triangle and things barely improved from there. Spiked 3-4-5, then 7 and 8, that was all. Anna and Kirsten ran past me on 5 & I was pleased to keep up with them by going my own way which was higher and closer to the red line. Lost them pretty quickly running down from the control - running down is one of my biggest problems at present. Got on the wrong ridge for 10 and at that point decided not to continue. Took another 1/2 hour to walk back from there. I should have done a lot better - this kind of race usually suits me.

Orienteering race 38:00 [4] 4.4 km (8:38 / km) +100m 7:45 / km
shoes: Silva ProLite

Easter Day 1 (Middle) This was a lot more challenging than yesterday & I was rusty. Had trouble reading the detail on this map. It seems ludicrous to have a 5,000 scale on yesterday's map and 10,000 today given that the courses were virtually the same length but the level of detail mapped was far greater today. Slow but accurate to 1, almost spiked 2 but thought I was a gully short when I wasn't, 3 good, 4 good, 5 led Kirsten astray and got very confused, from there fine to 10 where I was pushed right - this seemed a common problem, 11-13 good, then thought I was heading for the finish so didn't look at my map properly and just ran, after the finish chute didn't appear I looked at the map and realised there was another control first & I had no idea where I was. In all lost about 4 1/2 minutes for the whole course so then about 5 minutes off the winner - not that bad given lack of training in rough terrain. That makes 2 controls I nearly missed this weekend - about the only mistake I've never done and would like to keep it that way.
(Distance from GPS, course was 3km)

Orienteering race 17:54 [3] * 2.7 km (6:38 / km)
shoes: DS Trainer

Prologue - reasonably happy to have made it through first race comfortably with no major problems. Realised I made bigger errors than I thought after reviewing the map - poor direction to 2, unlucky on 3 (control placed differently to shown on map), bad route choice to 4, shocking execution and got a bit confused going to 5 which meant 3 others caught me. Wayward and slow on 9 and 10, then had control blindness for 12. In the end, the last loop was very short and I found I had saved some for a last effort that was never needed. Probably a good thing not to have killed myself on this day. Course itself was a bit too easy.

Run 40:00 [1] 6.0 km (6:40 / km) +70m 6:18 / km
shoes: Kayano 13 - Orange

More a jog-walk than run. The sticky date pudding was great when I was in South Perth, not so great on the Broadwalk... Very nice of Kim & the almost-birthday girl to let me walk when I needed to :)

Pram run 46:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:45 / km) +120m 5:21 / km

A bit warmer than I was expecting and Aoife didn't fall asleep for a second so lucky it was a beautiful day in Kings Park.

Nganga training. Kellie made me work and think hard, happy with route choice and reasonably happy with strength & fitness again (considering where I expect to be right now). Again, tried to keep running rather than mess around looking for controls that I didn't spike.

Mt Billy (Richard's course from last weekend). Good fun, only a little bit scratchy - working on technique and maintaining momentum. No trouble with stability - happy with that for first run in the bush.

Triathlon 1:16:50 [3]
shoes: DS Trainer

Women's Matilda Bay Triathlon - 2 min slower than 2 years ago & reasonably pleased with that. Rather than feel stuffed in each of the legs I planned to go comfortably - I think the swim training made the difference as I did freestyle for over 3/4 of the distance and only resorted to breastroke to see where I was going. Took the transitions leisurely and consequently didn't fumble as much as I have in the past. Even had a long conversation with the nice man who came to tell me I broke the rules by unclipping my helmet before racking my bike. Cycling was comfortable after the swim (usually I'm dead at this point) and done with the subsequent run in mind so didn't kill myslef, which is my usual tactic here. Did 32km/hr overall which could have been faster, but could also have been slower given the training I've not done. The run was hard to start with but I settled into it and sped up towards the end without feeling any different. I think I didn't push myself too hard which aided my efficiency and I probably did better than if I had gone too hard.
