Run 1:08:03 [3] 9.6 km (7:05 / km) +210m 6:23 / km
shoes: Kayano - narrow ones

Didn’t realise we’d run so far! No wonder I was tired. Nice morning out but got a bit wintry out the far side of the Pinnacle.

All my runs seem to be 7min/km at the moment, including the orienteering ones...

Mulligans Flat lunch time event. Glorious day!

A bit wayward at times. Did a bad stumble hope not to have aggravated hip too badly.

Loop of Little Black Mt with Nat. Great out, relatively warm, or at least warmer than I was dressed for... Feeling a bit tired. And refreshing to run through here without trying to spot new map features.

This started out as a bit of a shocker. Was a bit wayward to 1, but aware of that fact. Whereas on 2 I was so far off I did not see the thick forest on my left (because it was in fact on my right given the direction I must have been running). Lost a good 3 minutes there and Nat saw me running into the control from the wrong direction. (She was not even at the start when I started...). We got 3 together (badly), but she stopped at the assembly as we ran through to pick up her compass. OK to 4, slow to 5, spot on through green to 6 and then twisted my ankle. So walked most of the next leg and a bit. Nailed 7 given slow pace. Misread 8 but luckily Nat had recaught and showed me the way. We went different ways to 9 and I got a bit in front by cutting the corner through the pines. Was able to settle down after that and all pretty good from there to the finish. Fun and one day I would like to do this area well. It would have been helpful if the MTB tracks were on the map, or else all of them off. Some were, some weren't. I know a fairly recent MTB map exists so it should just be a cut and paste exercise really.

MTB 1:58:57 [3] 7.25 km (3.7 kph) +168m
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw

Putting out controls. Cold! but clear. Hands were getting pretty numb by the end. Walked down the last hill as did not trust hands holding control stands and trying to brake... Got it all done in plenty of time despite a slow start.

MTB 30:00 [3] 4.0 km (8.0 kph) +46m
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw

Collecting controls. Kathie Dent ran up the hill faster than I could ride. I appreciated having the bike coming back down.

shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw

Putting out controls. Annoying to arrive back home with more stands than I set out with. Slowed progress somewhat, especially on the homewards journey. Was getting a bit tricky to see with the sun low, but sensational afternoon out, especially after such a frosty and slightly foggy morning. Hoping that tomorrow is clear. And so great to not even need the car for this!

Arboretum and Zoo with Nat. Great exploring ride. I hadn't ridden a lot of this previously. Tracks in Aranda bushland were very nicely graded for us so first steep downhill was a breeze! Fun through Cork Oaks and up new zig zag trail. Fun wiggling through plantations at the top, then exploring some of the VERY new and possibly not yet open trails. Got to a dead end, then ended up going down grassy slope where I had to get off as could not coordinate how to operate the dropper post (yes I have one!) and felt like I was going to go over handlebars with very soft front suspension. Then down to the zoo trails where I again wimped out riding some of the bridges. Very peaceful in the pines down there. Finished off crossing ford - very pretty, and back along lake, Cork Oaks etc.

Longest ride for quite some time and almost proved it by nearly falling off in car park at end.

Lost my previous entry for this. Bruce Ridge Wednesday event. Eoin thrashed me. Bad ankle twist down hill from 7-8. Was very worried about it on the day but completely forgotten until now so it must have all been in my imagination.

Really nice ride to work. Warm enough despite the fog. Quite a few kangaroos grazing near the powerlines just after crossing into BM.

MTB 37:41 [3] 7.43 km (11.8 kph) +168m

Not the commute proper. Tried to be too smart for my own good, thinking I'd avoid one of the hills, but the gravel firetrail I was expecting turned out the be the concrete path and that was pretty steep! only just made it home before dark. Trying not to be dependent on lights as that would just be another excuse not to ride when really there should be none. Beautiful out!

Surprisingly enjoyable sprint. I was never a fan of driving further away this morning, but it wasn't that far really. The sprint was good fun too (in hindsight). Quite difficult reading the map and which control was which - lost my placee many times! I was caught out early with no passage through many long buildings. Once I understood that theme I took a lot of care. Was always aware of being slow reading map and moving. Only a couple of real mistakes - 3 I was on the wrong side of an impassable piece of tape - took a while to find way around..., 9 I got ahead of myself and ran into a dead end, 12 I read carefully to make sure I took the direct route to stairs top, but then spotted the control on other side of garden bed so had to run around. Was surprised the finish was only a couple more easy controls from there and tried to run hard to the finish. It was enough to overtake Linda who had been ahead the whole course, but Barbara was deservedly way further in front.

A much better day today, after I missed a few min on the first. Enjoyed it, surprisingly. Was feeling very slow in running but managed to be accurate. 2 common legs with Aoife, she beat me on both.

Spent much of the course tagging along Alex Davey's coat-tails. We went completely different ways on the long leg and arrived at the control a few seconds apart 16 minutes later... Worked out afterwards that he had caught me 2 minutes at the first control. I got a bit of that back on the last control as he went very low. I was worried I was too high as a consequence but also ended up slightly below it.

A great place to run and I did not do it justice. Too many errors and not concentrating today. Went well on the few legs for which I had my brain turned on. Paid for it when my brain switched off.

Once more checking. One way trip after Eoin dropped me at the far side. Nice out especially as the day warmed up. Was a bit hard to walk into the shady areas early....

Lots of cancelled meetings today so got out for a run when was otherwise appearing tough to fit in :) A bit of an explore in BM, took a newish track that was steep, but it made a good loop. Nat is getting strong on the hills, I need to pull my socks up...

Another woeful effort. Not too sprightly after a long day yesterday, poor sleep and feeling after effects of flu shot (hoping that's what it is). Taking it easy due to steep terrain and slippery ground. Really struggling to read the map today - had to use magnifier multiple times. Hoping that is just bad head and tired eyes.

Not my finest portion of an hour. Very scrappy at the beginning. Capped off by missing 13, punching 14 instead and then not being able to find it, because I was navigating to it from 14... and then a very bad ankle twist leaving 20. Was hobbling and disorientated after so almost went for a swim...
